My time volunteering at the hostel wasn't what I expected. Poor communication, delayed stay confirmation, and Spanish language barriers, were challenging. Promised free kayaks and tours were unavailable during the undisclosed "high season."The volunteer accommodation lacked cleanliness. My job was mostly about working at parties, staying up late, and making sure everyone was having a good time. Some activities were nice, but the parties were too much for me. If you're fluent in Spanish and love parties, the hostel might work, but for a more organized experience, consider other options.

Kateryna did not complete her stay as a volunteer at the Yak. Everything required for the volunteer position was communicated in advance, but when it came time to perform the activities, she refused to do several of them

We volunteered at the hostel for 6 weeks and had the best time! the whole staff was very welcoming and made us feel like a part of a family. the work at the bar was very easy to handle (working as a waiter)… but it would have been nice to know before that the hostel is working with a restaurant and you will mostly be serving guests from outside the hostel, so it's very busy and sometimes stressful! nevertheless we would always come back and had a great time!! thank you for everything, lott & nina 😚😚

I volunteered at the hostel for 5 weeks. This was an all time favourite for me. The staff didn't know much English but they made a point to try and learn to communicate with me. They also really helped a lot with teaching me Spanish. I made so many great friends that I was sad to leave. I 100% recommend volunteering at the hostel.

I had such a great experience volunteering at the hostel in the bar! The staff were super friendly and welcoming which made the experience that much better. The hostel is beautiful and right on lagoon and volunteers get full access to the hostel amenities, activities and 2 free tours. Volunteers receive 1 free meal but only on the days you work. I worked 4 8hr sifts a week with 3 days off. Staff dorms were not cleaned on a regular basis but overall were decent. I would definitely recommend volunteering at the hostel!

I had a wonderful time volunteering at the hostel in the Activities Team! The staff are really friendly and it feels like a little family. Volunteers stay in dorms at a staff house 2 blocks away from the hostel. It isn't the cleanest, but it's decent. The lagoon is beautiful and volunteers also get free tours! My tip for new volunteers is to have at least a beginner level of Spanish, because it will be easier to connect with people. I hope my next volunteer experience is just as fun! Thank you!!

The hostel was a super good volunteering experience! the hostel is beautiful and right on the pretty lagoon. The staff house is not very clean but it is only two blocks from the hostel which is handy. Toti is a super cool manager and Nico at the bar was great, there is a lot of flexibility especially as the leaving dates which has been really helpful to me. I worked in the bar and had four 8 hour shifts a week and then 3 days off. The work was chill but the shifts are long so just be aware of that. Bacalar is beautiful however there is not much to do so I'd say a month is more than enough time :)

The month I have spent at the hostel was amazing! The application process was easy and straightforward. On the day of my arrival I received multiple messages from the hostel, they explained how I can get to my accommodation and where I can get the keys from. I worked in the area of activities which was fun, it was basically just playing and interacting with the guests. The staff was always very helpful and kind to me, they made my stay even better. I could write a lot more but I have limited characters so I just want to end this by saying: thank you the hostel for the nice experience!

I loved volunteering at the hostel! I stayed for a month working the bartending area and really enjoyed my time here. Bacalar is a very cool little town and I would definitely recommend volunteering here!

We loved our time at the hostel ! The hostel has a friendly staff ; who gave us a warm welcome. We staid a month in the bartending staff and the team were with us and present whenever we had questions. Bacalar is a lovely city with a beautiful lagoon. Even though it is quite small, the parties here are amazing.

I had such an amazing experience at the hostel! I highly recommend volunteering here. It was so much fun working at the hostel with so many people coming from various places around the world. Bacalar is also a great city and was the perfect destination for the month I spent volunteering :)
