TwinFin Cafe/ 9nine lives hostel

Lagos Portugal is a great place to be! Help 5 hours a day, 5 days a week then go explore the stunning beaches! Learn to surf and paddle board with our friends, find a quiet place to do yoga and eat at all the amazing restaurants! We have a close knit atmosphere here, where staff and guests are all family.

I have owned both businesses for about 4 years now. The volunteers I look for are outgoing, like meeting new people, making new friends, and learning about different cultures. Everyone is like a big family here; Including the guests! Get ready to make some life long friends!

had an amazing time working at twin fin. The team is very sweet and the work was fun, even though it could get a bit busy in the mornings, so I’d recommend to have some hospitality experience. The place we stayed at could definitely be improved, but the other volunteers that i stayed with, still made it feel like home. Lagos and the area around is very beautiful and there are lots of activities to do.
Can’t wait to come back!!

I volunteered at this hostel and found it under-equipped (beddings, towels, organization) and not very professional. The manager was unpredictable—sometimes very nice, but at times rude to volunteers and even guests. The place has potential, but management needs improvement. On the positive side, the agreed hours were clear and respected, which gave me time to enjoy Lagos. It wasn’t perfect, but I’m grateful for the experience and the chance to make the most of my stay.

It's disappointing and disingenuous to label the manager as "unpredictable" without acknowledging the full context. She experienced a significant personal loss, which understandably required her to take some time away. Upon her return, rather than being met with empathy or support, she was treated with clear hostility. Grief can deeply impact a person’s emotional and professional functioning, and it's unfortunate that such a basic level of compassion and understanding wasn’t extended to her.

I loved working at the Twin Fin Café. It was my first Worldpackers and also my first solo travel experience, and it couldn’t have been better. I stayed at the so-called “Villa,” which was great accommodation with enough space and a family atmosphere. Lagos and the café are great places to meet many people, and the nature and beaches are wonderful too. The work can be busy in the summer season, but everyone is patient and explains everything clearly. Brad, who runs everything, is such a kind person and made the experience even more enjoyable. Overall, it was a very cool experience!

I stayed for 4 weeks and had a really good
time! I enjoyed working in the café because the working environment is welcoming.
However, previous experience in the catering industry is recommended. The accommodation is a 15-minute walk away in a somewhat improvised but very spacious flat. In my free time and on my day off, I had plenty of time to explore Lagos and the surrounding towns, relax on the beaches, go hiking and enjoy the nightlife. I will definitely be back!

I absolutely loved my time at 9ninelives! The team was amazing—especially Heather, who makes you feel at home from day one. The hostel is super social, and it’s easy to make friends within minutes. The vibe is relaxed and fun, with lots of shared meals, rooftop hangs, and spontaneous adventures. The work is chill—some light housekeeping and reception duties, nothing too hard. It’s the perfect place to connect, explore, and feel part of a little family. Highly recommend!
