The Valley House Hostel & Bar

The Valley House Hostel & Bar is on Ireland's Wild Atlantic Way. Our historic Victorian house is located on scenic wooded grounds close to Blue Flag beaches. We have a Woodland Faerie Trail and a beautiful lake on our grounds. The music sessions, conversation and pool table in our friendly pub will keep you happy in the evenings. Our courtyard is a lovely place to sit out and enjoy the fresh air.

In the high season we have a great international team of staff along with some volunteers. We work hard and play hard here on Achill Island! Our traditional pub is busy with guests from all over the world each summer and we enjoy great music sessions in our little pub all year round. In the low season it's quieter but there's still plenty to do and a nice atmosphere here in The Valley House.

Don’t walk to this place - run! This magical place has it all: stunning nature, a warm local community, great hosts, a fantastic team of volunteers and staff - and yes, great pints of Guinness ;) I’m very grateful for the time I spent here. Thank you Pat and Alice!

Location is rural, beautiful, idyllic Irish landscape surrounded by sheep, more sheep, and many beaches to explore. It is a great location if you’re looking for some tranquility and calm.
The work is as expected in a hostel, albeit the management and coordination of the business is sub-par.
Wifi and cell service doesn’t work very well in the staff rooms but works well in the house.
Had a great group of volunteers during my stay and wish them all the best : Pierre, Nick, Vincent, and Emma.

My experience at The Valley was amazing! The work was manageable, and the stay was very comfortable. If you enjoy peace, nature, and are looking for a volunteering opportunity in Ireland, this is the perfect place.

Achill is a beautiful place and I really enjoyed my time at the Valley House. As I was there in the off season it was very quiet and it was a bit harder to get some places on the island. It was still well worth the stay however and the work was communicated well and was very manageable.
Pat knows heaps about the local history and Irish history in general and it was great to find out a bit more about Ireland and its culture as well.

I had a great time at the Valley House! Pat and Alice are really kind hosts; the tasks were very straight forward, volunteer hours were always respected, and it was a great place to meet people from all over the world. The nature is gorgeous, and I had a great time exploring around. Achill Island is very remote, so getting around can be a little difficult without a car, but in the summer and fall it is so beautiful it's worth it! I'm really grateful for my time at the Valley House and everyone I got to meet, and I will definitely be back to visit. Great experience and I would recommend.
