Worldpackers contribute 15 hours per week, working 2.5 hours a day for 6 days, with the 7th day off. This includes public holidays such as Easter, Christmas Day, and New Year’s Day. If you prefer to take these days off, alternative arrangements must be made in advance.

We are a family of four. I also manage an Airbnb Studio on-site. Our 100-year-old Federation House is in the heart of Byron Bay, just a 2-minute walk to the centre and 5 minutes to the beach. Please note that social interaction will be limited due to our busy schedules, especially during peak holiday periods.

Our place is perfect for independent travellers looking to experience Byron Bay’s unique charm away from the crowds of backpacker hostels. The accommodation offers a peaceful retreat for those needing a break from the social, high-energy backpackers. However, if you are starting your travels, please note that the quiet and solitude here may differ from the communal vibe of hostels.

You’ll stay in a garage converted into a comfortable living space and share it with another helper. This space has a private entrance, sleeping quarters, kitchen facilities, and a bathroom. The garage also houses a quiet electric car, separated by a privacy curtain. Occasionally, the garage door may be opened or closed, which could cause some noise. Most helpers adapt easily, but light sleepers should take this into account.

We ask that you maintain cleanliness in your living area, including daily sweeping, washing dishes, and emptying rubbish. Respect for your co-worker and the shared space is essential. The accommodation is for helpers only—no guests are permitted. For socialising, we encourage you to meet friends in town or at the beach, as this is a tranquil neighbourhood

Shops, beaches, supermarkets, and other conveniences are nearby. We prefer non-smokers and vegetarians. If you smoke, please do so off the property. Byron Bay’s central attractions are easily accessible from our home, making it a great base for exploring the region. Helpers with a spirit of independence, adaptability, and respect for their surroundings will find this a rewarding stay.

Regarding potential insect concerns, we are in a subtropical region where cockroaches, mosquitoes, and ants occasionally appear. I encourage Helpers to keep their living space clean, but not everyone always follows through with tasks like removing rubbish or washing dishes. That said, I do my best to ensure the space remains tidy and can provide tips to help you feel more comfortable. You may see a cockroach - this is something I also encounter in my own home from time to time; it’s part of living in a sub-tropical climate. I just spoke to the current helpers about cockroaches and mosquitoes. They've been here for three weeks and mentioned seeing one cockroach and a few mosquitoes, which is quite normal.

Work starts at 9 a.m. and finishes at 11:30 a.m. (2.5 hours 6 days a week. Again, please note that work is required 365 days a year. This position is not suited for those looking for another job. Tasks include domestic chores, daily vacuuming, raking, gardening, weeding, plus other household tasks varying from washing cars to polishing shoes and anything in between. We’re looking for happy, independent, motivated workers who can handle tasks independently.

Please note: Food is not provided, but free unlimited WiFi is available, and I will handle your laundry daily.

We love Byron Bay and look forward to sharing this beautiful place with you! Our home is directly opposite the Byron Bay interchange; airport shuttle buses always stop there. Ballina/Byron Gateway Airport and the Gold Coast are the closest airports.
