Welcome to Ramkot, Nagarjun-6, Jayanti Gau—a Small Village with a Big Heart My name is Apsara Karki, and I’ve proudly called this beautiful community home for the past 25 years. I’m a registered trekking and tour guide, and in 2009, I started this volunteer program out of a deep belief in the power of connection, compassion, and cultural exchange. Growing up with strong values of hospitality and care, I dreamed of creating a space where visitors could not only give but also receive the warmth of Nepali village life. Today, I work alongside a wonderful team who help make this vision a reality: Tara, our dedicated local teacher, supports volunteers in the classroom. Manju & Sarita, our kind cook and caretaker, make sure you’re well-fed and feel at home. Jayanti Gau Ramkot, our community liaison, helps with project coordination and translation. And of course, our children and families, who are the true heart of everything we do. We are not a large organization—we are a close-knit community. When you join us, you become part of our extended family. What You Can Expect: Comfortable, clean single-room accommodations—simple, cozy, and peaceful Delicious homemade meals shared with our family. The kitchen is open 24/7—feel free to prepare your favorite Western dishes anytime Cultural orientation and basic language support to help you feel included and confident Open, honest communication—we are always here to listen, support, and guide you Sincere appreciation for your time and presence—every effort you make is valued Whether you stay for a week or a few months, we’ll do everything we can to make sure you feel safe, welcomed, and inspired.

It was absolutely amazing, I recommend it to everyone who wants to see the beautiful differences that we have in our world and also to collaborate with the kids at the orphanage, which was the highlight of this experience. Apsara was a really nice host, I felt welcomed since the first moment I got there, she was friendly, kind and her food is something else (loved the homemade momo). She helped me with every doubt and also recommend some places to visit during my stay. She was always willing to help :).
I would definitely love to come back one day !

I stayed at Apsar's house for a month and was very well received by her and her family. I had the opportunity to spend time with volunteers like me from different countries, such as France, Mexico and England. The food was excellent, and she tries to meet our taste buds. It was a very pleasant house with a very comfortable space. I am a sports teacher, so I taught soccer, volleyball and capoeira at both the orphanage and the Buddhist monastery, where I also had the opportunity to experience Buddhist religious. I wish happiness to the Apsara Family and gratitude for welcoming me into your home.

It was a lovely experience to know more about Nepali culture and meet amazing children. Apsara’s house is comfortable and the food is very good. The work is very flexible and you can be creative to help children with what you know more about.

Instantly we were greeted with kindness from Apsara and Sijan. At their home, many delicious traditional nepali meals served for breakfast, lunch and dinner. One evening on request, We did a cooking class with a beautiful view from their home making Momos, Pakauda and many more foods here in Nepal. My favourite experience was being with the kids at the orphanage, they bring such kindness to everyone they meet. Playing Nepali games, holding hands and shown tours around their home, having my hair braided by them and hugs all around, this work brings fulfilment. We had plenty of time to explore.

Apsara and her husband warmly welcomed us from the moment we stepped in Nepal, placing marigold necklaces on us and gave us two nights free at the homestay before the program started. In the morning, afternoon and evening we are made authentic Nepali food, our bellies we certainly full 24/7. The volunteering at the orphanage starts at 4pm, so in the day we have been free to explore the interesting things to do in the city such as the best local yoga and sound healing recommended by Apsara. We found our travelling plans changed and apsara was completely friendly and helpful when leaving early
