Restoring Desert Beauty Volunteer at Tagounite, Morocco

Travelers seeking a unique and enriching experience should consider volunteering at our place, nestled in the pristine, tranquil locale with pure, unpolluted air and beautiful weather. It's where you'll uncover the profound meaning of "wabi-sabi," appreciating the beauty in imperfections and the transience of life.

Here, time moves at a slow, graceful pace, allowing you to shed the burdens of the past and rediscover your true self amidst the breathtaking Erg Lihoudi desert, surrounded by warm-hearted Berber people. In my family's village of Tagpunite, you'll be welcomed with open arms, invited to stay in our home. You'll have the opportunity to immerse yourself in our culture and cuisine, learning to cook like a local.

I'm Nourdin, 23 years old, and I've been fortunate to call this place home all my life. Living here is a gift, a testament to the philosophy of savoring life's simple, imperfect beauty and the profound connections we build with the land and its people. Come join us on this journey of self-discovery and cultural immersion.

Our family, the Tuareg Berber family, has a rich history of nomadic life and a deep connection to the desert, especially the Erg Lihoudi. We've moved from town to town, seeking tranquility and sustenance for our camels. As a close-knit family, we've decided to establish a small desert camp in this beautiful desert, but unforeseen circumstances like COVID have led to challenges. Currently, our camp is not fully operational, and we are seeking assistance to expand and enhance our facilities. We've created a WordPackers account to connect with potential volunteers and experts who can help with SEO, recovery, and other aspects to rebuild and expand our camp. We are eager to build more rooms and share our skills in crafting, using simple tools to create bricks, and other essential tasks to build and improve the camp. Volunteers can expect to be treated as part of our extended family. You will experience the genuine warmth and hospitality of the Berber people. We will work together to create something meaningful, and your contribution will be highly valued. We are open to new ideas and welcome more volunteers to join us in this endeavor. Together, we can bring our vision to life and continue our connection to the desert and its beauty.

This was one of the most unique experiences I've ever had, and it's left me at a loss for words. The landscape is breathtaking, with lots to admire. I feel as if I got a true glimpse into Tagounite life, particularly during Ramadan. Nourdin is very welcoming and loving, as is his entire family. Because of the time I arrived, there wasn't much for me to do, so I can't comment on the tasks, but I had a great time nonetheless. One thing to keep in mind is that the facilities can be a bit spartan, but it's nothing one can't easily get over. All in all, a truly amazing experience that I recommend.

Nourdin and his family are absolutely lovely people. They received me very kindly in their home and were very caring about anything I needed. I immersed myself in the local culture and had a peaceful and quiet time in this voluntary. The sky was breathtaking and there is so much to learn about the nomad life. It is a very chill environment and people are welcoming. Food was incredible, work very simple and I will definitely come back.
Thank you Nourdin for these experience! it warms my heart :)

Nourdin and his family are amazing people! I absolutely loved them and felt very welcomed. They are all loving and caring people and make delicious food. It was such a great life experience to be with them and know about their lives. It is important to know that you don't stay in the family house, but in another house in a remote village with Nourdin and his friend, so I'd recommend you go with friends, mainly if you're a woman. It's a real marrocan place, so there are flies and obviously no AC, so only go if you're comfortable with that. I stayed for 2 days instead of longer, but had fun!
