Oasis Eco-Village

Hey there:) We are an eco-village, which strives to live sustainably and in harmony with nature. We are passionate about promoting an eco-friendly and sustainable lifestyle.

At our eco-village, we offer a relaxed and welcoming environment, with accommodation and food provided. We also provide an unique opportunity to get involved in a community committed to sustainability and social responsibility.

Our estate is quite large, so all our volunteers have their own private rooms with bathrooms. We also have many communal "hobby" rooms, such as a gym, a workout room, a sewing, painting, music and movie room, co-working, library and more!

It's a place to grow together but also to have fun together.

Our Vision: A world where we compassionately connect to ourselves, each other & the environment.

Our Mission: To accelerate the transition that needs to happen in regards to health, work, community & resources on the personal, cultural and social level to secure optimal living conditions for ourselves and future generations.

Our Aim: To be a living example of the new paradigm and an Oasis for people, who want to heal themselves, live more sustainably and contribute to the new world.

We often have visitors, guests and students, so there is always something happening here. This is why we welcome volunteers, to exchange skills & knowledge with us as well as to introduce them to eco-village & community life!

Our volunteers are like family, part of the community. We like to leave the volunteers free to choose their place in this project and change their tasks if something isn't working out. We have many different ways and roles a volunteer can take. If you are interested in volunteering with us for a minimum of two months, please check out & apply directly under: https://docs.google.com/document/d/10AchU1sOdYgkND1JMpIXsRcSv2PmYkaNKQ9O9ckxlPU/edit *We can only accept volunteers from Europe or those with volunteering visas due to immigration law.*

It didn't work out for me and I left the place early. The facilities are nice, most people are nice and I could adapt to the macrobiotic food.
However, they struggle a lot to organise the volunteers and they push that job on top of us if it's not working. I worked way more than 35 hours per week and had to attend endless meetings and circles. I felt exhausted, that I was wasting my time, ignored when I shared it with everyone and manipulated into thinking that I had a problem (even though more people shared and felt the same). In the end, it seemed like they didn't want or needed my help.

It also wasn't a good experience for us. Although Flavio is very kind and really wanted to help, he was not a match for our community.

At Avnø our policy is that each volunteer or team have an area of responsibility according to their wishes and abilities and then they organize their own time. Many volunteers have left Avnø feeling very empowered with a good understanding of how to find balance between work, community life and private life. The whole idea behind our is that we want our volunteers to work out of inspiration rather than working out of duty. To take breaks when needed. It is clearly stated in our info-pack. It is not always easy in the beginning, so often they need a little support to find balance. Flavio wanted us to create a more fixed work schedule - for everybody, rather than just support to organize his own situation.

It is also clearly stated in our infopack that volunteers will be part of our community while they are here. Flavio wasn't really a fan of taking part in our community activities, so our morning circles and sharing circles that for us are joyful and a point of connection was for him endless.

Flavio can be a good match at a place with a different policy and values.

It was a nice experience, the place is totally surrounded by nature and beautiful animals of the area. I enjoyed people there, I got the opportunity to learn more about macrobiotic diet, improve my skills in social media management and even in cooking meals, which is something I do like.

Sometimes I just felt not in the right place, feeling the need to meet new people and explore new places, but it was not so easy since Avnø it’s kinda in the middle of nowhere.

Dear Alice! We are sorry you was disappointed. We are aware that this experience is not for everyone and that we do what we can to inform people about what to expect, including an interview before to avoid unrealistic expectations. For the most time we succeed and have people who feel they grow a lot during their stay here and are grateful for the experience. However once in a while we don't succeed to recognize unrealistic expectations in a person before they arrive with the result that they experience disappointment. We are sorry that you obviously had to go through this.
