Welcome to our unique project in central Serbia! Our place is surrounded by abundant nature with no neighbours but the mountains, and sits in the shadow a medieval fortress that has been inaccessible over 50 years. We now provide access by driving the boat and maintain the fortress so that tourists can see this exciting part of history.
The project began when we acquired the land in 2022. We make our living from tourism, and put effort into making this a magical place to visit. There are two parts to our project: the commercial tourism and the Rural Cultural Centre. 🏡✨ If you love nature, teamwork, and creativity, this is the perfect place for you!
Around us, in the famous Lilac Valley, we have a cooling waterfall, a beach watching the green river curve into the distance, and an animal farm home to goats, ponies, with sheep and donkeys soon to join us.💖✨
We are now looking for strong-spirited and hard working volunteers who are keen to get on board with the idea. Above all, you will be part of an initiative to bring cultural life back into the rural area. You will see how we can respect the land and bring it to life.
You will be living as part of an ever-growing, international community. In the summer, there is a big mix of crowds living with us and helping us. We cook and eat together, and relax in the waterfall after work. Many lasting friendships have been made, and you can get to know the locals that come and share rakija with us. We are uniquely placed under the fortress, a significant part of Serbia’s rich and turbulent history. Our very own archeologist will chat will you about what this place was like in yore. Our friends from the surrounding villages make delicious young cheese, kaymak, ham, blackberry wine, plum rakija and many other delicacies. We sell them to visitors and treat ourselves. We run regular events and workshops in our Cultural Centre. We offer mushroom foraging, traditional drumming, and making rakija amongst others. If you’d like to share a skill, we can gather the troops. 🏞️💪

What a unique project! There are tons of friendly animals roaming the property, nature to explore, and I especially liked spending early mornings at the fortress. I met a bunch of interesting people here that really inspired me. This is a great opportunity if you are looking to be immersed in Serbian culture!

I thought this was a unique place. However, I feel I was treated unfairly. I was quickly judged and told I didn’t “fit the vibe”, and that having me there was like having an alien, among other unhelpful comments. I thought everything was going well, but I immediately felt unwelcome and labeled an outsider. There should be more understanding, open mindedness, and much better communication from the host. I don’t doubt other people have had a great experience, but I think it heavily depends on whether the host likes you and decides that you fit in. My stay was also unfairly given “no show”.

We never wanted this to escalate so much.
You were very arrogant, judgmental and putting zero effort to help us. It was a very unpleasant experience for all of us since day one. For someone who travels to grow I suggest a bit more openness could help.
Also think about what you can offer to place before applying for it.
Everyone voted for it and you were politely asked to leave when you organize your travel dates. We hope you are able to learn something from this.

This is a great oportunity to enjoy nature and meet with locals. Milos and the team know what is to be a volunteer and will help you and explain everything, also other volunteers that are here for longer will be supportive. The tasks are fine and they vary according to the needs of the place or your habilities. I most helped in the kitchen and the bar, but also doing some cleaning and picking stuff from the garden. Working hours were always agreed and they asked me what was ok because they can change during the days. It is a great property, but you have to know it is a kinda wild experience.

Maglicgrad is an incredible place to volunteer if you are searching for a local experience and a beautiful nature place!
At first it was a bit cunfusing about the tasks and working hours but after a quick chat with the host we agreed in the shift that worked best for both. I was helping at the café and in the garden, and sometimes I'd also help in the kitcken preparing meals for the group and guests.
The place is very beautiful, with the amazing castle and a waterfall, crucial for the heat waves in summertime. I recommend it if you want a hardworking place and immerse in serbian culture
