Hi! My name is Marco, I'm 27 and 2 year I had a wonderful volunteering experience in Scotland through Wordpackers, and last year last year I hosted Maria with whom we had a lot of fun. Now it's my turn to give back and offer someone the opportunity to live an unforgettable adventure in Italy.
I live in Reggio Calabria, a small city in southern Italy. In the city there are several restaurants/bars where you can try different Italian dishes or go for a drink. And you can take a walk along the seafront. Here there is the sea everywhere and the mountains are only 30 minutes away by car.
I live in a villa in the countryside, with my parents, my sister and my dog, 10 minutes by car from the city center and 25 minutes by bus. In the family no one speaks English except me.
I offer:
- Food and accommodation: you will not have to worry about anything; you will have a cozy place to stay and delicious home-cooked meals. But if you want to try typical dishes in one of the many restaurants / bars in the city, on those everyone pays for their own consumption.
- Local experiences: You can visit the center of Reggio Calabria, go to the sea go to the mountains, visit the beautiful Tropea, you can go to Messina and visit the wonderful Taormina. These things you can do in a day because they are close. But if you want to visit other places that interest you and are far away you can also spend a few days away to visit other cities and then come back to my house. For example, Naples is 4 hours away by train, Rome 5:30 by train or 1 hour by flight.
- Italian Lessons
I would be happy to host a volunteer, man or woman, who wants to immerse themselves in Italian culture.
What I ask in return:
- English Lessons: I'm looking for someone (male or female) who not only speaks English well but also knows how to teach it.
That means understanding my starting level and being able to plan lessons that help me improve and get over the shyness I have when I make mistakes speaking.
We can structure the lessons however you prefer, as long as you can help me and know how to approach them based on my level. I don’t want to be the one telling you how to teach, because I already know the main thing I need is to speak as much as possible to improve.
We’ll spend time together, and for that reason, I’m looking for someone patient, kind, cheerful, and motivated to really help me get better.
- Helping out with tidying up when there's a table to set and clear when eating, leaving the bathroom clean after using it, and only once a week helping my mother with the cleaning.
You will enjoy amazing Italian dishes, as my mother is an excellent cook. We will do various activities together, and you will have the chance to immerse yourself in Italian culture and even learn a bit of the language, or if you like to do them yourself that's fine too. I want you to feel at home and do whatever makes you feel good. The only thing I want in return is for you to teach me English, which I don't speak well. Maybe a few hours a day, and for the rest of the day, we will enjoy the time.
