Little Lions Junior School

We don’t just want to give you volunteering and teaching experience, we want you to build connections and lasting memories.

We will give you a true perspective on what is like for the many people who reside here. Here in the slums we only have limited government so most children go to community schools like mine. Even though life for many of the children is a struggle, you will see how much they embrace learning and always bring positivity.

My name is Eunice Otulo, the owner and director of School. I started the school several years ago as safe centre for kids to provide quality education and care, and to address many of the issues they face in the slums. We provide the 150 students with breakfast and lunch, and we try to give them extra care, especially our 30 orphaned children. We currently work with 5 local volunteer teachers, who we one day hope to pay. My daughter (24) and son (12) live with me as well, and like to interact with our guests Volunteers can expect warmth and friendships. And lots of hugs from the kids.

I had a wonderful time here, engaging with the school and the community. The school is very small but there are lots of students, so any teaching experience or wisdom you can bring is hugely valuable. What I would say to volunteers is being prepared to meet people from very different walks of life. Adjusting to the culture can be a challenge, however it's very rewarding and you will learn a lot. The work is flexible. Eunice was a good host and I recommend this position.
