Originally from Cleveland, Ohio (yes, that Cleveland), I’ve spent the last 16 years calling Hokkaido home. Before settling down in the quiet coastal town of Iwanai, I lived in Sapporo and Hakodate—so I know my way around a bowl of miso ramen and a snowy backcountry trail. In a past life, I spent a year and a half wandering through Asia, Africa, and South America with a backpack, questionable maps, and an ever-growing appreciation for outdoor adventure. These days, I’m all about skiing, hiking, sea kayaking, and mastering the fine art of grilling things over fire. You might hear from me directly, but chances are you’ll be in touch with my much more organized and equally friendly colleague, Caesar. He’ll help coordinate your visit and make sure all your questions get answered—probably more efficiently than I would

The Iwanai ski resort is an absolute blast. The team there is fantastic, filled with so many awesome people who make you feel at home right away. Accomodations are comfortable and the work is super engaging and gets you acquainted with the mountain and the environment really well. I came here from the hustle and bustle of Tokyo and it was the perfect retreat. Iwanai is a beautiful little town and just the view from the mountain alone makes coming here worth it! Would highly recommend. Huge thanks to Ceasar, Dan, John, and everyone else that let me have such a great stay here!

Worked here for a month over the end of summer and for my first WorldPackers it was overall pretty fun. The work is mainly landscaping, cutting grass and trees, but there were some other jobs too like helping setup tracks for the snow cats. Can be pretty difficult at times but enjoyed it. You are well fed through your stay here. The hosts are very friendly and generous, help with hitching a ride to Sapporo. I would say the communication of the requirements and organising the work at times could be done better and the only downside is the location is quite far from everything up in the mountain
