Heb Hostel

The Heb Hostel is a family run hostel in the heart of the Hebrides. If you like the outdoors, wildlife and remote areas as well as chatting to travellers from all over the world, this is the place for you.

We try to treat our staff well. We believe time off and privacy is very important and do not have more than 2 staff sharing! We don't get to socialise with staff as much as we would like as we have two young children but ocasionally get involved with staff meals, bbq's etc.

Again a wonderful experience at the Heb Hostel Christine is an inspiring and caring host who works incredibly hard running her hostel and looking after the wellbeing of the volunteers.

I am truly grateful for my first World Packers experience to have been with Christine at HEB Hostel. I enjoyed getting to know Christine, her family, the other volunteers, and all of the hostel guests. There is something so special about the place and the people, it is clear why many return.

Truly a home away from home! Christine and her family are the sweetest, most caring hosts who make every volunteer feel like part of the family. She goes above and beyond to ensure we’re happy with our tasks and always checks in with kindness. The cozy staff cottage makes it so easy to feel at home right away. Stornoway has everything you need from shops to restaurants to pubs, and exploring the Hebrides on days off was magical. I have never seen such blue water! Morning sea dips with Christine and other volunteers are memories I’ll treasure forever. I couldn’t recommend this place more!

Volunteering at Heb Hostel has been such a wonderful experience. The tasks are very straightforward and Christine respects the volunteer agreement. Stornoway is a great place to spend an extended amount of time with great walking trails and lots of fun day trip options via public transportation. The Scottish culture is very strong in the Hebrides and is such a great experience meeting local and international travelers. I would recommend this to anyone who enjoys the outdoors and is team-oriented!

This was my first Worldpackers experience, and I couldn’t have wished for a better one!
I enjoyed both cleaning and welcoming guests. The tasks were easy, well explained, and there was also plenty of time to explore the island.
Christine really cares about the volunteers; she’s always there if needed, and her family is amazing. I truly felt at home!
Living in the cottage with the other volunteers was great: I met incredible people from all around the world, had a fantastic time, and made lifelong memories.
Definitely recommend!
