Geraldton Backpackers on the Foreshore

Geraldton is a coastal town on the Coral Coast of Western Australia.
The beach is at our back door, you will be within walking distance of all shopping requirements and Geraldton's many attractions.
Our climate is warm, we do not have cold winters so you can swim all year round.
Our hostel is located in a Heritage listed building, with ocean views from the terrace areas.
We have two TV rooms, a fully equipped kitchen, pool table, outdoor garden alfresco dining areas, and security parking.

We are a very small family run hostel . The maximum guests is 50, however we are only at 100% capacity during the holiday weeks, so the work load is always manageable. We will always support and assist if the hostel is busy. You will have tasked assigned to you each day. Your duties will include, but are not limited to, housekeeping duties, linen changeover in rooms, cleaning of rooms, vacuuming, damp dusting, cleaning bathrooms, vacuuming hallways and foyer areas, cleaning the kitchen at night, sweeping outdoor areas and laundry. We will welcome you into our family, and we will ensure you have a wonderful experience. You will have the afternoon each day to explore our beautiful town, to see the many attractions that are walking distance from the hostel, You can enjoy the long walks along the foreshore and enjoy the beautiful white sandy beaches( all at the back of the property).

I enjoyed my time in Geraldton! The workload is not too heavy (although it was not super busy in general), had a good time with the other volunteers, the hostel has great facilities and it's super close to the beach. I left a few days before my agreed final day, because Geraldton is not super big and I had the feeling I was ready to move on. Pippa was very relaxed about it and we had a good chat, and it was no issue to leave sooner. If you're looking for a nice, relaxed hostel to volunteer for a few weeks, this is definitely a good place. If I'm ever in WA again I'd love to visit again!

positive:
- the volunteers
- the hostel is clean
- the kitchen is good
- the outdoor area is alright

negativ:
- the work is unreasonable absurd (we cleaned on a regular basis: the stairs spindels, the doors surfaces, moldings, ..)
- offerd said 3h / day which was bare minimum (I had 5h+ shifts sometimes)
- the 4 bed dorm were we slept is tiny
- the host gonna check the cameras if you do ure stuff
- There was no offered picked up service
- There was no offered free laudry

I just felt like being the cheapest employee, what keeps the hostel alive - couse there is barely someone..

Patrick did not honour his committment of 4 weeks. Patrick is not being honest in his review, I offered to pick Patick up from the bus station if he arrived on the 2.30pm bus. I am busy at reception and cannot leave if volunteers come on the later bus. Patrick chose to arrive on the 3.50pm bus. Patrick had no experience in housekeeping. Patrick struggled. Only 2.5 to 3 hrs of tasks are assigned. I do not check cameras, I do check the rooms to ensure they are upto standard. Sadly they were not

A month ago, without further thought, I came to Geraldton, a tiny little town in WA, to make my November perhaps a bit more remarkable. In fact, it turned out to be too remarkabl. I finally learned to stop rushing, listen to all the intriguing stories around me, offer my genuine blessing, and then move on stronger. And I met the greatest people and had the most memorable adventure in 2025.

Expérience très agréable ! Je me suis sentie un peu comme dans une petite famille avec les autres volontaires. Certaines règles peuvent paraître un peu rudes parfois mais contribuent à la tranquillitée de l'établissement.
Bon endroit pour une première expérience australienne et améliorer son anglais.

A very pleasant experience! I felt a bit like I was part of a small family with the other volunteers. Some of the rules can seem a little harsh at times, but they contribute to the tranquility of the facility. A good place for a first Australian experience and to improve your English.

Staying here was a great way to start my time in Australia! Pippa and the other volunteers were friendly and welcoming from the start, and I felt at home here very quickly. The hostel is very comfortable and clean, and the location is great, right next to the beach and shops etc. The work is reasonable, just a few hours in the morning cleaning the rooms, and then every few days another 40 mins or so in the evening to clean the kitchen. Pippa has high standards with the work, but once you get up to speed it's totally fine!
