Friends Hostel

Our place is very social and familiar and we help each other making the things great here.
The volunteers beside helping us will have the possibility to know other people and to experience more from Albania. Also two times a week we organize exiting day trips in the surroundings.

Volunteering in our place is like feeling at home. We like to promote our culture and our native language too and we also think that in our hostel there is place for everyone.

An amazing experience. You get to work with a family that welcomes you with open arms and they provide delicious meals. The work itself isn’t hard (mainly cleaning) and it’s only a few hours a day. You get to experience a beautiful (but small) city and the hostel provides an amazing view of the castle. It is great experience if you want to improve your social skills, develop new skills, try local foods, and explore what Gjirokastër (and the surrounding cities) have to offer. The family themselves are a reason to apply because their generosity makes it feel like home. I highly recommend.

I absolutely enjoyed volunteering at Friends Hostel. It was my first time volunteering and I will be forever thankful for Evisa and her family giving me the opportunity to do it at their hostel. I felt welcomed and respected at all times. I enjoyed working with Buko despite the language barrier the job always got done, some translation or simply hand signs lol. I loved the grandma Lika always making sure I ate. Also Landi was very nice and attentive. The job is not hard at all, it’s a routine you get used to quickly. Perfect environment to meet travelers . I would absolutely be back one day.

I enjoyed their family dynamic and helping Buko around with the cleaning of the hostel. I enjoyed the family meals and desserts shared with me. I liked that she allowed me two extra days off to enjoy my birthday in Sarande/ksamil(I think she was just being extra nice for my birthday)(:
I didnt have much difficulty with the language barrier with Buko sometimes it was difficult, but I managed well and so did Buko. I would definitely recommend this volunteer opportunity. They have a young daughter and shes very smart, energetic , and super friendly, so I would be mindful of children atmosphere.

It was a beautiful experience 😊 They were so kind with me and made me feel part of the family. I had fun working with Buko, shared lunch with the family, enjoy traditional meals and met a lot of people that arrived to the hostel, really made lot of friends! Was a shame that i went in winter cause I worked during the hours of sun (10am-17pm) and I didn't have time left to walk around the city cause it was dark and cold, so I could do it only in my free days. Advise, be patient to communicate with Buko, use the translator, and follow her in the routine, she's a lovely lady and a funny coworker♡

We had the pleasure of having Nerina volunteer at our hostel, and she was nothing short of exceptional. Her hardworking nature, responsibility, and kindness stood out from the start. She was always smiling and very polite, making both guests and staff feel incredibly welcome. Nerina's positive attitude and dedication to her tasks truly made a difference, and we are grateful for her contribution. We highly recommend her for any future opportunities and wish her all the best in her endeavors.

I really enjoyed my stay at Friend's Hostel everybody was super nice and welcoming since the very beginning, the hostel is a really nice and cosy place and I really enjoyed giving a hand and even though the cleaner doesn't speak english she has a lot of patience and we always manage to get things done one way or another 😄 Thanks for everything and Gjirokaster is also such a cute city <3
