Finca Eco Turística El Viejo del Monte

Our place is perfect to take a break from being a tourist. Contact with local people, plants and animals of the area will change the way you see the country. Relaxed rural area with rivers a vegetation.

Me and my wife work in the project together, we have two dogs, two cats, a pig, a goose, some chickens, a goat and cows. We are relaxed and like to share experiences in nature with others and have bonfire sessions. Acomodation is free in exchange for 3 hours of work, meals are not included but you can get them for an affordable price with us.

I was welcomed with open arms and always felt very appreciated. This place it perfect for you if you’re looking for a chance to reconnect with nature and spend time with all of the amazing animals here. Jennifer and Mabel are amazing and funny hosts who will always help you if you need anything and make the place feel warm and positive.

Era una buena experiencia, con alegría y buen humor de parte de las anfitrionas y otros voluntarias! el trabajo fue super interesante y Jeny nos daba mucha autonomía, también era fácil comunicar juntos!
Tenía suerte de ver muchos animales, perezosos, rana, tucán,… Dado que la finca se encuentra en plena naturaleza.
El lugar es “roots”, entonces hay que gustar este tipo de experiencia y de manera de vivir, pero yo quería un proyecto en la naturaleza y con sencillez, así que fue el sitio perfecto!

I’d like to erase this experience from my memory. I’m only writing this because all of her reviews are 4 - 5 stars and I don’t think that’s an accurate representation. Do your due diligence. If you’re on a budget and in a vulnerable position, make sure you have backup plans

Tons of colorful birds, fruits, animals and a private river to fresh up. We were also offered 2 tours and the local breakfast was included. Most work was easy & fun.

Installations are rudimentary, much stinging ants, mosquitoes & flies. Camping, cooking and chilling all outside. The village is remote & authentic. Take the bus to explore around!
Cloths can get damaged from work & this position requires autonomy and a sense of self-management. Fast drying & work clothes recommended.

Hosts are quite present, flexible & understandable. The biodiversity is MAGNIFICIENT, hosts truly love nature.

I stayed at the finca for just under 2 weeks. It was a perfect break from the chaos of backpacking in a lovely little town in Costa Rica. The hosts are great, the work is not too difficult and rewarding, met some lovely backpackers. Just make sure to bring bug spray!
