Farmstay & childcare in France

Hi, I’m Léonie and I run a sheep farm in South west France together with my mum.

Located in a rural and green region in the South West of France (Charente) we will welcome you into our family as a full member of it. You will live with us for free in exchange of some help on the farm.
Also we are expecting twins for February, so if you want to combine animal care and some baby sitting look no further!

We own approximately 250 sheep. Even if we breed lambs for meat animal welfare is one of our priorities. We think that they deserve the best living conditions possible and a fair treatment for the time we have responsibility over them. We also strictly limit the use of any chemical treatments in our fields and even if we aren’t a certified organic farm we don’t use any pesticides or chemical fertilizers and work as close as possible to what is required for the label.

If you choose to stay with us you will be a part of the family and share all meals with us, have free access to all the equipment of the house (washing machine, kitchen, etc). During winter there are less social events in the near town but if we go out you will be welcome to join us!

We already had several au pairs and they’ve always enjoyed their stay and integrated really well into our family.

Get to know us : - I am Léonie (26), born and raised in France but with some German traditions, currently expecting twins for February 2024 (edit : the babies are here!!) - Martina (59), my mum, originally from Germany she chose to buy a farm in France more than twenty years ago and started breeding sheep - Christopher (28), my partner who works for a local company - Gabin & Lisa (born Nov.2023) our two adorable twins Also part of the family all our animals including dogs, cats, chicken, guinea pigs, horses and of course our sheep!

The host ended the stay earlier without explanation. I planned on being there for 2 months. After 2 weeks the host told me I had to leave immediately. Before they gave no indication that they don't want me to stay there for the whole time or that there were any concerns. The explanation was that the children are too young to be with a stranger. They told me I didn't do anything wrong. The hosts didn't apologize, the way they communicated this was unempathic, incomprehensible and rude. I do not recommend anyone to visit this farm as the hosts are irresponsible, unpredictable and not trustworthy

It is true that we told you we wouldn’t keep you for the two months as planned because we didn’t feel comfortable leaving the babies with a stranger after all. But we offered you to stay for free until your friend leaves and even to drive you around so you could make the most out of the few days left to visit France a little.
We brought you to the train station, we paid for your tickets, so I think we have been correct with you.
At your departure you didn’t even bother saying goodbye to the babies, that just showed that you didn’t have any bond with them and comforted us in our decision. Additionally you didn’t show much initiative, you for sure didn’t work too much and also don’t seem to have much experience with babies (that young) despite what you told us in the first place. We wanted to tell you in the best way possible for all parties involved but you and your friend immediately took it as a personal offense.
Ps : we also accepted that your friend came to join you which we wouldn’t have been obliged to. I think we handled (or at least we tried in the beginning) to handle the whole story as adults but you two definitely didn’t.
