Creagh House

It's fun being at Creagh during the summer, there's lots of people staying, music and dance, and walks in the woods, and sometimes canoeing. We like to meet people from other cultures. Quieter in the winter, and colder but we generally still have fun 😊 In winter you should be prepared for cold temperatures in the house, we generally live at 14 deg centigrade, except for the main living room which has a stove. Dancing keeps you warm!

You will be treated as one of the family! We work hard but not for long hours. We eat together at least once a day, and sometimes go out in the evening together. Volunteers sleep in a large dormitory room, with up to 4 other people of any gender. We do have a tiny mezzanine available sometimes for couples. Routine is that you will work 4 days a week for 6 hours each day though we can be flexible, for instance if you are working on line you can distribute your 25 hours a week so that you can still keep up with your remote working. We expect you to be flexible too, sometimes you will be asked to work a weekend shift, or start early. Work is all physical, cleaning, ironing , changing beds, gardening, painting, construction, emptying compost toilet cleaning geese pen, chopping wood, stacking turf etc etc

Although the people were friendly, I found the environment to be completely chaotic and neglected. Even though I fulfilled my volunteer hours, I had to spend much of my time cleaning and organizing on my own initiative, since the place was in total disarray. This left me exhausted and prevented me from making the most of the experience in the way I had hoped: improving my English and sharing in a spirit of community.

Annie, Peter, Gus and everybody else were very welcoming, flexible and human in the way they treat volunteers. They sit on the table with the others, eat together and are really warming!
The place is well located in Ireland, and you have access to a beautiful lake. The landscape is awesome and we have felt immersed in Ireland culture.
The jobs were easy and the hours are respected.
The only problem is that the environment in general is considerably disorganized and dirty. It seems to be cultural, for what we understand, although the conditions of cleaning could be improved.

Creagh House feels like home and the people there are like family. The work is never too hard and it's always rewarded with a big lunch, music, dancing and swims in the lake.

Very welcoming place and alwesome peoples, always carying for the volunteers and the lunch always in group so the host can see how everybody is feeling and developing. Everything you need for the job you can find there, or they will buy if something is needed so you can work with better confort. Besides the kindness, it's a warm place, people are always playing some instrument or dancing, a happy place for real!!

To start with, the host are amazing. Both Pete and Annie will make you feel part of their house. Whatever your needs are, just let them know.
Be open to their activities and to a nice swim whenever is possible.
If you play an instrument, you will enjoy the place at its best. If not, don't miss the chance.
It's a great place to enjoy, relax, read, immerse yourself in the local culture, go for little hikes, dance and play as much music as you'd like.
Everyone comes back, guess why!!
