Carpe Diem Eco Retreat

Unique opportunity to learn natural building methods yet have the time to keep your travels alive! We are located in an empty beach right in the pacific ocean. Plenty of empty waves, incredible sunrises and sunsets, and a back to basics lifestyle here.

OK, so basically, our belief is that everyone is a student and teacher, so no specific skills are required! We will be teaching natural building methods to help bring the project alive!

We only expect 3hrs maximum per day, and meal plans are at a cost of $90 a week, which gives you 3 vegetarian meals, plus free coffee, water, and tea with breakfast.

We will also be operating a cafe, so if you need juices, sweet cakes, etc, they will be offered at a discounted rate!

We do ask for a 2week minimum as we are on an island and need to organize the right amount of food for everyone. We had some stay with us for 3,4 and even 5 months!

We will offer camping with your own gear $3 per night, and we have an open air dorms and some smaller accommodations starting at $9 per night, and private cabanas at $27 per night.

The project, when it was in full flight had up to 35 people there at one time, so we can accommodate many, no one will be turned away!

It is a community style setup where everyone helps with cleaning, watering the plants etc in the mornings, then the 3hrs work.  But we see it as a free natural building school where you learn skills for life!

It is a back to basics with composting toilets, open air well fed showers, and we're about to upgrade the solar system. Phone reception isn't a problem here to post away on your social!

Free time activities?
Surfing, we have over 300 days of offshore winds here in Nicaragua and world class waves, yoga, volcano hiking, Leon only 30 minutes away, turtle releasing,  and we will drop into cacao ceremonies,  and others when the time is right!

We also want the volunteers to run their own workshops. You can actually make some money to fund your trip!

What will you bring to the project?
Have you volunteered before?
What's your motivation to experience something like this?
What is your time frame, and how long would you like to stay with us for?

Looking forward to speaking more with you!

Carpe Diem
Brendan, Sarah, and jarrah 💚💙

🎉 Well, guess what? We’ve got just the thing for you! We’re throwing the doors open for Season 2 here at Carpe Diem Eco Retreat, Nicaragua, and we want YOU to be part of the adventure! 🎉🌊🏝️

After an absolutely epic first season with nearly 200 incredible volunteers and students, we’re ready to do it all again! From November 11th, we’re welcoming families, travelers, students, and volunteers from all walks of life to experience this magical place we call home. 🌞🌴🐢

Ready to dive in? Here’s what you can look forward to:

🌟 Season 1 was AMAZING, and we’re ready to top it! 🌟 We had the most unforgettable 7 months filled with laughter, learning, and community magic! Let’s take a quick look back at the magic we created together:

192 awesome students/volunteers 🤩

1196 bananas eaten 🍌 (we LOVE bananas)

112 watermelons enjoyed 🍉

174 handmade pizzas devoured 🍕 (they were next-level, trust us!)

149 yoga sessions in our huge 32-space shala 🧘‍♀️

58 mind-blowing workshops and ceremonies 📚

9500 baby turtles released into the ocean 🌊🐢 (yes, you read that right!)

63 new fruit trees planted 🌳

1 rescued horse (our new mascot 🐴)

Countless sunsets and sunrises that will take your breath away 🌅

Now, it’s YOUR turn to join the fun for Season 2!

About the Retreat: We’re located on the stunning Isla Los Brasiles, a short, fun boat ride from the beach town of Poneloya, and just half an hour away from the historic city of León. You'll be arriving on the island in true eco-style—by boat and horse-drawn cart! 🚣‍♀️🐎

🌟What to Expect This Season🌟

Are you ready to roll up your sleeves and learn some awesome natural building techniques like cob and round timber construction? Interested in permaculture, earthen floors, or digging a well for fresh spring water? We’ve got you covered!

Plus, our island is a turtle nesting sanctuary! If you time it right, you’ll get the chance to see baby turtles hatching and maybe even help release them into the ocean. 🐢🐢

But it’s not just about the building and the turtles—we’re all about balance! After a few hours of working with the land, you can unwind with daily yoga, take part in one of the many workshops (more on that later!), or simply relax in our shaded neem forest, perfect for camping under the stars. ✨

You’ll be joining a community where everyone shares, learns, and creates together. Last season we had 58 incredible workshops that spanned a huge variety of topics. Here are just a few of the highlights:

Permaculture 🌱

Cacao ceremonies 🍫

Brazilian twerking classes 🍑 (yes, you read that right!)

Ocean awareness training 🏄🏽‍♂️

Men’s and women’s circles 🧎🏼‍♀️🧎🏻‍♂️

Breathwork sessions 🧘‍♀️

Interactive storytime 📚

Macramé workshops 🧵

Natural medicine ceremonies 🍄

Cocktail classes 🍹 and sip-and-sketch nights 🎨 And SO MUCH MORE! The creativity and love in our community are truly boundless.

We ask for just 3 hours of your time each day (Monday to Friday) in exchange for all of this magic. The rest of the time is yours to relax, explore, and dive into our incredible workshops and community events.

What’s On the Menu? 🍽️

Don’t worry—we won’t let you go hungry! Our team prepares three delicious, home-cooked meals for you every day. The food is fresh, nourishing, and full of local flavors. We’ve got you covered with a weekly meal plan, so all you have to do is enjoy!

🌟Get Involved with Our Awesome Projects!🌟

From November to May, we’ll be working on some seriously cool projects, and we need YOU to help bring them to life:

- Building private bathrooms with natural materials like stone, palm thatch, and straw/clay walls.

- Setting up an epic garden-to-table café 🍅🥕🌽.

- Dreaming up creative art installations and sculptures to add to the beauty of the island 🎨.

- Starting construction on our unique home design.

- Learning how to dig a well for fresh water from the island’s natural spring! 💧

And these are just a few of the projects we’ve got planned—we’ve got so many more in the works!

Are You Ready?

This is your chance to live in harmony with nature, learn new skills, and be part of a community that’s creating real, positive change. Come join us at Carpe Diem Eco Retreat and make memories that will stay with you forever!

We are a fanily of 3, Brendan, Sarah and our son Jarrah, who is 2yrs old. We value family, gratitude, and knowledge. We belive everyone is both a student and teacher here at Carpe Diem.

Could not recommend this more. Living with a family for a couple weeks was so comforting and I personally had the privilege of feeling apart of their family. Dogs and kitties on the property, and lots of activities to do in your free time. The volunteering hours are really chill. Hosts genuinely care about you and your stories. Food is vegetarian but out of this world. Absolutely perfect if you are looking for a community living experience.

The location is stunning and remote, perfect to disconnect and enjoy nature. The facilities are basic. Unfortunately most of the activities advertised at the time of applying (Spanish lessons, dance lessons, surf lessons) were not running. It’s worth noting that the prices are on the higher side (very basic accommodation for $9-27 a night, $90 a week for food), so might not be the best choice for people on a budget. The experience might be a better fit if you’re looking for an alternative/spiritual lifestyle, or can stay for free as a yoga teacher or chef.

As you are well aware, we encourage people like yourself to run workshops. Unfortunately we didnt have what you desired here at the time, but you never asked? I run surf lessons myself... we had many other worlshops here and you chose not to participate. $90 a week, =$4 per meal. When youre having 2nd, and 3rd helpings, i cant see how you can say this is expensive?? A 3 star rating shows us that you never really arrived.
