The hosts speak Chinese and Japanese but they're both (married couple) very friendly and willing to communicate with you. all the staff there don't speak English except for one lady, but they're very familiar with using Google Translate. the area is very quiet, not much to do in the immediate surrounding area but there's a bus to town 10 min away (USD5 for a round trip). the hosts asked us to help w cleaning despite us agreeing to manage their social media, which felt a bit unfair. other than this they were welcoming and let us use facilities (onsen, bikes). would recommend for a short stay!

My boyfriend and I really enjoyed our experience. The job was very light and consisted of 3 hours a day of bed making. It's a repetitive task but the time goes by really fast. The host is very kind and the staff is helpful too. When I took the volunteering I didn't know much about the position (I think communication here on the app could improve, actually) but I'm glad I took it. I'd like to thank the host for being so kind and letting my boyfriend and I use the private onsen on our free time, that really made our experience next level! :) also shimoda is the cutest town! Def recommend it!

Shimoda es un sitio precioso que hizo de mi viaje a Japón uno de los mejores hasta el momento. El hotel es prácticamente nuevo y mi labor fue ayudar a darlo a conocer al mundo, mostrando en redes sociales los servicios, habitaciones y comodidades que ofrece además de la cantidad de opciones que tiene Shimoda para turistas de todas partes. El equipo del hotel fue muy agradable y me hizo sentir uno más, una experiencia que me llevo para toda la vida y estoy muy agradecido de haber podido vivir.

Mi estancia en el hotel fue increíble. Los trabajadores fueron super amables y dispuestos a ayudar con cualquier necesidad que tuviese. El hotel y la habitación son cómodos y espaciosos, los alrededores tienen un montón de lugares para visitar y que merecen mucho la pena. En cuanto al trabajo fue ayudar a manejar las redes sociales y subir publicaciones, lo cuál fue sencillo y fácil de hacer, a la vez de ser un trabajo bastante reconfortante y que te permite viajar por los alrededores. Como único aspecto negativo la barrera del idioma, que dificultó la comunicación con el host

Mr Wu was a wonderful host. He worked hard to ensure we were comfortable and enjoyed our time working at the hotel. The hotel and shimoda were lovely too meaning we had a lovely time enjoying the facilities and area when we weren't working!

The hotel itself is very nice; its located outside Shimoda (so a little hard to reach) but the area is very nice. The staff is friendly and you can just ask them if there's any questions, but sometimes it felt like communication was lacking a little bit; especially in the beginning. The rooms you get to stay in are okay but the kitchen is really bad (I used it but it was not nice) and the bathroom is a little bit broken and not the best either. Though apart from that, it was a nice experience and not too much work, so there was lots of time to explore and try nice restaurants :)

Shimoda is a dreamy place, beach, cliffs, shrines, temples, local food. The work is easy, 2-3 hours a day, plenty of time to explore around. Communication is definitely missing, don't expect it. Make sure you bring your own food the first day, and don't rely on shuttle bus (last local bus from Shimoda to Suzaki is at 17:50). Kitchen is disgusting, I never used it, just the microwave. You have to pay for onsen, towel, laundry and detergent. Definitely worth it to come, despite communication and kitchen. You can use the bicycles for free. We wrote guidelines, send me a message to check it :)

I truly feel communication is missing for volunteers. so this is for next people. if u can edit video like nicely work with social medias. say it to the owners by showing ur work.
