My time at the animal rescue was a great way to connect with lots of different animals with massive personalities on a beautiful island. The work isn't too hard and leaves you with plenty of time in the day to explore the island (definitely explore the other towns!). Sometimes Jana can get stressed and frustrated if tasks are missed or not done to her standard and sometimes this made for a negative workplace. I found communication about the tasks that needed to be done in the beginning was lacking but once we understood each other the work environment improved and we got along a lot better.

I had a wonderful time volunteering at the shelter and would absolutely recommend it. Jana is very kind and welcoming, the work is not at all difficult (typical tasks include carrying hay + water, scooping the shelter poo, weeding, watering plants, feeding cats), and the animals are lovely. The house is either a long walk or a short bike ride from the ocean and the town of Stari Grad. Both the house and island are beyond beautiful.

I had a really nice time at Jana's , the house was lovely and the location was good. It was a great first experience, the hours weren't long and the work wasn't too challenging. The perfect place for connecting with nature. You have to really like cats as there are a lot of them, they are all really sweet and well behaved. Would definitely recommend!!

I absolutely loved my time in Stari Grad! Jana is very hard working and truly loves all her animals. It does take some time to get to know all the cats & donkeys and understand their needs, but once you do - it's a breeze. The work/free-time balance was perfect for me, and there's always something to do if you're bored xD The rooms are great and you even have a private bathroom! If you don't like living among cats, dogs, flies and hay - this is not for you. If you love to spend time with donkeys and am willing to put work in to carry water and hay for them - you'll LOVE it here!

I would totally recommend staying at Janas place ! I absolutely fell in love with all the animals and the beautiful nature there. I had my own room and bathroom and the working hours were respected! Jana is really welcoming and you can see how much she cares for her animals it's really inspiring. I went on a lot of walks with zena, toto and the donkeys, slept with cats at night, sometimes cooked together and so much more good things, I felt totally at home. Was really hard saying goodbye hopefully I will be back soon :)

I've had a wonderful time walking the donkeys with Jana and getting to meet all the beautiful animals she has. Did some gardening as well, and cleaning, as the kitchen and cat area need to be cleaned regularly. The working hours were respected as stated beforehand, and on my free days I'd hike around Hvar or go downtown to the old port. It's a beautiful island to visit, definitely recommend going there in the spring or early autumn, when it's not so full of tourists. This is paradise for animal and nature lovers! Oh and the WiFi was strong enough for video-calls, so that's a big plus!

Our stay here was truly wonderful. The island is beautiful and Jana and all the animals will make your stay unforgettable. The working hours are always respected and you are really flexible. Also the work is fairly easy and will not exhaust you at all. Probably one of the best options if you are looking for a peaceful place with lots of cute animals and incredible scenery and views.

My experience at Jana's place was really amazing. Her home and the surrounding nature was stunning and I'm really grateful for my stay there. The tasks were really easy to do and you have lots of free time to explore the island. It was great living together with her animals and we could spend lots of time with them together like going on walks with the donkeys and Toto or caring for the cats. I had such a great time with all of them and absolutely recommend this place for everybody who wants to live and work at a beautiful place together with lots of animals!

Our first impression of Jana was super nice and welcomed, she even helped us out when we had trouble in Split and we could arrive a day earlier thanks to her!! Our room was nice and cozy, the kitchen where all the cats live, not so much. Jana is stressed most of the time and we had hoped for a better communication since we often wondered what to do and Jana was simply not to be found. After a week or so that problem was solved through messaging and we got along rather well. The island is SUPER nice, just be aware of the cold if you arrive in winter, like us, we underestimated the cold!!
