Programmdetails
The Kwagalakwe Scholars Program, run by Gomba Kwagalakwe Public Health Support Foundation, is a faith-inspired effort to keep vulnerable children in rural Gomba District, Central Uganda, in school by removing hidden costs that lead to exclusion and dropouts. Despite Uganda’s Universal Primary Education policy, many families cannot afford essentials like school bags, stationery, uniforms, sanitary pads for girls, hygiene items, textbooks, exercise books, examination materials, sanitation supplies, and minor school contributions. Without these, children are sent home, miss lessons, or face shame—harming confidence, mental health, and long-term progress.
The program provides holistic support: distributing supplies, offering mentorship and life skills guidance, running hygiene workshops (especially menstrual health), organizing donation drives, and monitoring retention and outcomes. Rooted in “For God and Health Promotion” and the spirit of “Kwagalakwe” (mutual love for the vulnerable), it empowers kids from the poorest homes to stay in class, build self-esteem, and become future leaders.
Donations are warmly welcomed but always optional. A contribution of €150 fully covers one child’s school fees, uniforms, stationery, hygiene items (including sanitary pads), and all essential requirements for an entire academic year—directly preventing exclusion and investing in their future. Your support helps more scholars thrive; it’s fully transparent with updates, photos, and stories shared. Thank you for considering joining us in this meaningful work!
Aktivitäten & Schichten
A typical volunteer day in the Kwagalakwe Scholars Program runs from approximately 8:00 AM to 4:00–5:00 PM (about 20–25 hours per week total), with flexibility based on school schedules, community needs, and weather. The schedule is structured yet adaptable to rural life in Gomba District. Evenings and weekends are generally free for rest, cultural exploration, or personal time.
Sample Daily Checklist (Monday–Friday during school terms):
7:30–8:00 AM – Breakfast at the volunteer house (local Ugandan meal provided).
8:00–8:30 AM – Morning team meeting: Quick prayer/reflection (faith-based), review daily goals, plan tasks with local staff.
8:30–11:00 AM – Core hands-on work: Distribute school supplies (bags, stationery, uniforms, sanitary pads, hygiene items) to scholars at schools or community points; prepare kits for distribution.
11:00 AM–1:00 PM – Mentoring & tutoring: Work one-on-one or in small groups with children—help with homework, teach life skills, offer encouragement, build confidence.
1:00–2:00 PM – Lunch break (nutritious local meal at the volunteer house or clinic area).
2:00–4:00 PM – Afternoon activities: Organize or support donation drives/community awareness events; run hygiene workshops (e.g., menstrual health education for girls); join mobile outreaches to visit homes or schools to identify needs; assist with simple program tracking (photos, notes on attendance/impact).
4:00–5:00 PM – Wrap-up: Debrief with team, clean up, document stories or progress for updates, prepare for next day if needed.
After 5:00 PM – Free time: Rest, interact with community, explore Gomba, or join optional cultural activities (e.g., local music, market visits).
