The experience had some positive aspects, but it did not fully match the description on the platform. The host was not present during my stay, and the experience was managed by the manager. Communication and interpersonal dynamics were often difficult, which made the environment feel tense rather than collaborative. Expectations around tasks were not always clear, and the place in general was not clean. Benefits stated (like food) could be improved to better support volunteers.

Oscar is the epitome of someone who punches up, never to the side or down. He is professional and principled. Toni was amazing to work alongside of and had a great sense of humor (if you understand even a little bit of Spanish). Being here really helped hold a mirror to the tender parts of my Puerto Rican upbringing and I'm grateful for that. The work was hard and rewarding. I built muscle, I preserved food, I worked on solar projects, and I got to pet a bunch of chickens that really just wanted me to feed them lol. Thank you Oscar for having me. I see your vision and honor your process.

Overall I had a great time at the farm. It's a great opportunity to learn about farming, spend time with nature and explore the beautiful island of Vieques. Tasks are varied and the hosts make a point to include you in tasks that meet your specific interests. However, at times there can be some tension and stress on the farm due to conflict between the hosts, though it's rare that it affects or involves volunteers. That being said if you can ignore this all should be well. I would recommend spending some time at the farm.

This place is for connecting with nature, slow life, learning about Vieques and agriculture and be a part of a great project. (they got a website called “Community Through Colors”) The place is for people who want to help, learn and work 5 hours a day 5 times a week. The tasks are various and straightforward, there's a lot of independent work. For me I got to choose when I wanted to work, but morning shifts are preferred since it gets really hot in the afternoon. Vieques is such a beautiful and peaceful place, but in some degree very primitive like the farm, so don't expect anything fancy (:

I spent 2 weeks on the farm and all in all I liked it. Oscar is a very nice and open person, unfortunately he was often not at the farm. Additionally, I didn't get on so well with the farm manager, the woman who assigned me to the work. She was very moody for no reason and at first I thought it was because of me. Nevertheless, all the other workers on the farm are very nice and the island of Vieques is really beautiful.

What they lack in genuine friendliness and positivity, they make up for with attitude and mosquitoes. I have a lot of respect for Oscar and what he's trying to do for Vieques but the negativity and drama on the farm makes it hard to stay invested.

I really enjoyed my stay and learning about what the farm does as well as about the island itself. Oscar is willing to share his knowledge of the island as well as the farm. He is committed to helping the community with the farm, as well as the entire island. I enjoyed conversations with him.
