Hostel Helper: Cleaning, Bar & Breakfast

Great city, lots of cute bakeries to explore! You can easily go to other cities as well with train (train station super close to the hostel). The work is within comfortable hours and the work is mainly cleaning but not too heavy. The managers can be very set on you working your hours even if the work is finished and there's not really much else to do, which was a little bit annoying. This led to us working slowly since we knew we needed to fill our hours and efficacy wouldn't pay off. The clientele is not young travelers but old locals searching for jobs and housing, a bit odd people

A very interesting experience and a great way to practise French. The hours are fair, and were communicated well in advance. The team was almost always very helpful, and the work was well worth the volunteer benefits. Bayonne is a beautiful, albeit quite small, town, but the hostel is right by the train station, so you can visit the neighbouring seaside towns very easily. Overall a very worthwhile experience, thank you Martin for your hospitality!

I had a lovely time time here. First, the team in this hostel is so lovely and I was feeling welcomed. Also, since here is basques region, I could immerse myself in a local culture and get to know local people and culture. It was a great opportunity and I appreciate it.

I really enjoyed my stay at hostel20. It's in a beautiful place, where you can da lot of fun things. You can also visit other places like Bilbao on your days off. I helped with cleaning, making beds, working in the reception or making dinner. Worked between 2-6 hours a day, the hostel hours a week. The staff is really nice and welcoming. I hade a lot of fun during my stay here. I really recommend this!

Loved my stay at hostel20! The staff is kind and welcoming. Worked 2-6 hours a day (the hostel hours in total each week). Helped in the reception, made beds, cleaned the area and made dinner. The work hours are respected. Lived in a dorm with 3 others. Got dinner at the days that I worked, other days you can cook in the kitchen. It was an amazing opportunity to practice French (and Spanish). Also learned a lot about the culture. On days off you can surf in Biarritz/Anglet, visit San-Sebastián, Bilbao, Bordeaux etc. Really do recommend this experience!

It was truly a wonderful experience, all the staff was so welcoming and nice! The cleaning work was at the beginning a little exhausting, but it got better with time and you are also not expected to work like the people who earn money. Also it was just one part of the various task that you do which are really cool. For the free dinner on the days that you work they were very accommodating and I as a vegetarian had no problem finding something to eat. Had a lot of fun there, was able to improve my French and met amazing people. I definitely recommend this host to future volunteers!
