Hands-on Volunteering in a Rural Senegalese Village 🛠️🌍🌱

Stefan is a nice guy and very knowledgeable. However, I don't think he is ready for visitors yet, nor is willing to spend any money to accomodate a volunteer. He does not have a toilet, so currently you squat in the yard - this is a critical detail that was missed. I was disappointed with the food (mainly just bread). I know dinner is not included, but as he doesn't eat dinner, he didnt help me with arranging my meal. He didnt seem interested. It lacked the family atmosphere I expected. It's quite remote and nothing to do in the village. Without your own car/bike you're stuck there.

Hey Sam,
I'm sorry to hear about all this! Things could have turned out differently if you had addressed it directly. I meet all visitors at my house in Tambacounda and not in the village because it's still a construction site.
But YOU wanted to come directly to the village and not to Tambacounda. I am very aware that this is not for everyone. But you said you would camp in the wild, so I had fewer concerns. And every time I asked you, “Is that okay with you?” you said, “No, no problem!”

I had a great time at Stefan's place. He has a lovely family, a child whom I really enjoyed playing with, the area is peaceful in the middle of nature, and the food was very good. There are many things to build on the land, and Stefan enjoys sharing his knowledge. He is a very friendly and humane person, funny and cultured. I highly recommend him!!!
