Hospitals in Ghana always need extra help. Volunteers go a long way to help the hospital staff and also in turn learn about the Ghanaian way of medical procedure. Volunteers will assist in most medical procedures along side local qualified Doctors and nurses.
Volunteers work in government hospitals which is always packed with many different people and ailments. Volunteers choose which of the department they want to intern or volunteer in.

Depending on your qualifications, you can either work alone or with a team of doctors and nurses.

Some departments demand work to be done alone, others require assistance. As a volunteer you will work with peadiatrics departments, labour wards, emmergency unit among others. smart white sneakers are also needed. volunteers can wear "normal" clothes to work and change when they are in the hospital. It's a privilege and an opportunity to enhance your skills and get more experience as it also allows you to help and save people living in deprived and marginalized communities

There are so mainly of reasons why a medical professional, pre-med or an enthusiast should volunteer on this volunteer project. Connecting with a community that may not receive efficient medical care that are required is one of the importance and the reasons to consider volunteering.

The program will further impact your skills and abilities that you apply within your own work space. As a medical volunteer, you have the opportunity to help improve the lives of individuals who may otherwise not have access to the medical services that they require.

You may also be presented with the opportunity to connect with other individuals to form connections that you maintain throughout your career. General responsibilites for medical volunteers includes taking rounds, prescribing and distributiing medicines, dressing wounds and assisting with births. Volunteering your services is a great way to see the world while doing a good turn. Such an experience can be both inspiring and horizon-broadening.


Atividades & Turnos

Breakfast served from 5am onwards. Volunteers and Interns start the day usually with breakfast . After breakfast, volunteers walk to the bus station which is a 15minute walk from the volunteer house. Volunteers can equally take a sharing taxi right in front of the volunteer house to the junction to join the trotro (name of the local bus transport system here)
Volunteers have to be wary of heavy traffic in the city in the mornings. Depending on the traffic conditions, volunteers could spend an hour on the road before they get to the hospital. once in the hospital, volunteers report to their departments and their work for the day is described to them.
Consultation: Interns or Volunteers may consult with local staff members to discuss the day's needs and activities .
Work: Volunteers work in different departments, such as gynecology, neurology, orthopedics, obstetrics, pediatrics, and surgery.
Lunch: Volunteers take a lunch break with other volunteers and local staff at 12 pm.
Closure: Volunteers usually finish their placement around 3- 4PM, depending on the days task .
Dinner: Volunteers have dinner together with other volunteers/interns in the volunteer accommodation. All meals are freshly prepared by on onsite cook.
Evening : Volunteers are free to plan their evenings. You can stay in or opt for a night out with other volunteers.
