I had the most amazing experience in Chili Crocs! It was super chill and everyone was so kind and helpful! The food is incredible! I did the morning cleaning and the social hosting so was a bit busy but very fun and always had the afternoon to myself - would recommend to everyone! I hope to come back again someday! Till then I will be making content online to show off my phenomenal experience 🥰

I feel so lucky to have had the chance to volunteer at Chili the host. It really felt like home. All thanks to Era and Kish, always caring and full of positive energy. Two gems of a soul ;) From day one, I felt welcomed and my tasks were clearly explained. I quickly settled into a nice routine. Being part of the hostel also gave me the opportunity to connect with travellers, especially during the delicious family dinners prepared by Kish. Even though the dorm is a bit tight, the access to the facilities is convenient. Era and Kish know how to make daily life smooth and full of good vibes.

I stayed here with a friend and it was our first volunteer experience. The family atmosphere made us feel at home after just a few days. Era, the host, warmly welcomed us as part of the Chili the host family. During our stay we were able to make lots of new contacts. The work was as agreed beforehand and we had plenty of free time. The room you sleep in is unfortunately very hot but the delicious food, the beautiful location of the hostel and the lovely community there make up for it. We had an unforgettable time there and will miss it. 🌞 Ciao for now!...

No electricity – no Wi-Fi. Sharing a room with the host, no other volunteers. Inappropriate/creepy comments directed at me and my friend. Lockers without keys. No day off and being told that this volunteering is illegal. On June 1st, I checked how much money I had. The next day, all my euros were gone. I kept the money in a waist bag in the locker while, for example, cooking. The host entered the room twice while I was cooking.

Hi Nadia, you stayed in an AC dorm with padlock-able lockers, which we advised using at your discretion. After the money issue, your friend mentioned it may have been misplaced. The electricity/WiFi issues were due to storm damage and resolved within 24hrs. We’ve hosted many volunteers with great experiences and always aim to create a safe, respectful space—your accusations are surprising and not accepted as true.

We invite future volunteers to check with past ones for an accurate picture.

The task only took a couple hours to complete therefore it was said that no days off were needed which was not agreed and there was very little organization. The room got crazy hot, like a sauna and it was not comfortable to sleep in. But it was a fun environment and nice to have two meals a day

I started helping in the kitchen, then switched to cleaning bathrooms and common areas. It was a good way to experience Sri Lankan culture and meet other travelers. The tasks took about 2 hours, leaving lots of free time. The place felt more like a hostel than a the host space – very social and always music playing, which made it a bit hard to relax. The volunteer dorm was unfortunately quite hot at night making it hard to sleep too well. All in all i still had a good time there, really good and social vibes and Era and Kish were super chilled, funny and accommodating.

The accommodation for the volunteers wasn't nice and clean, the room was very tiny for six people and their luggages. The host was disrespectful at moments. My dust allergy came out and I had to leave the hostel.
