I had a fantastic volunteering experience at the hostel. The work was manageable and the staff were friendly, approachable and responsive. The meals were amazing, well-portioned, and the team culture made it really easy to socialise with both staff and other volunteers. I'd highly recommend this volunteering experience for anyone wanting to make friends with other travellers :)

All the staff and volunteers were really nice, the lunch and dinner time was one of my favorites parts of the day, we all seat together and enjoy (food was really good). The work is very good organized and a the time what's always respected. If you want to practice your Japanese it's the place to do it, due that the staff speaks really good and fluent. Takayama is a wonderful place to be, it has a river that cross the city and it's full of life (koi fishes, a lot of types of birds, flowers and even serows around the area), it has beautiful streets, forests and temples. I was lucky to be here in hanami season and Takayama spring festival, amazing experience! Im grateful for people that I met, team was amazing. Work was simple. Keep in mind that foreigners can be volunteers and stuff, so stuff team usually is busy all day and you can hang out with them after dinner. Takayama is far away, you can't go somewhere out after lunch, so plan your trips in your days off)

I had a wonderful experience. I must say that I was feeling unconfortable during the first few days, due to the many cameras everywhere, I cannot stand being constantly underwatch and also for breakfast we just had jam and a slice of bread, which is not great when you can't eat bread. But despite that I had an amazing stay, all the volunteers and staff are lovely, the tasks are quite easy, we finish at 1pm max so you have the whole afternoon to enjoy the city, and thanks to the hotel I volunteered in a matsuri, which is quite unique, I feel grateful for every moment I had at this place 🫶 thks

Staying at the hostel was lovely! Everybody at the hostel made me feel very welcome, the work was very easy, and the working hours were reasonable. The tasks of the volunteering work included making the guest beds and cleaning the common areas, showers, and toilets. Meals were always freshly cooked for lunch and dinner, thank you Ratree! All in all, I would definitely recommend staying in Takayama if you enjoy a quiet city and nature. Thank you to the whole the hostel team for giving me this opportunity!!

My experience at this Worldpacker was great! From the start, the team made me feel right at home; special shoutout to Ryutaro and Luke for their kindness and openness. But honestly, everyone brought their unique touch, creating an amazing group atmosphere. The work was simple and fair, allowing plenty of time to explore Takayama and enjoy personal time. Also; since this is a Smart IT Hostel, there are quite a few cameras, but you get used to it. Overall, I'm truly grateful for this experience and the staff's support. Their kindness and generosity made my stay even more special!

Thank you for your kind words, Max. We were more than happy to have you back here, since you and Victoria are so hard-working and such warm and enthusiastic people. Having workers like you in our team helped to have a good working environment and everyone appreciated it.

We wish you the best with your next adventure!

Thanks to this experience I had the opportunity to meet amazing people, both volunteers and managers, from all over the world. That said, I have noticed that the workload can vary a lot depending on the branch you are assigned to. We were mainly placed at Honten, which is the biggest branch, and sometimes we struggled to get everything done on time. On the other hand, if you are placed in one of the other branches the work is usually faster and lighter. I would suggest rotating volunteers more evenly so that the workload feels fair for everyone. Still, it was a truly amazing experience!

The hostel has a large, friendly team, including many Worldpackers. The work is limited to cleaning only and is manageable, though you may sometimes be assigned to clean one of the 5 branches alone. Training was smooth and supportive. The staff apartment is cozy, with clean, comfy beds! Lunch and dinner are provided daily, but breakfast isn't consistent. The hostel's location in Takayama is great! Flexibility is key, and volunteers should be aware of the large amount of surveillance cameras in every building.

Takayama was so much fun, and great part of that was due to the other volunteers and staff with whom I shared the experience. The work is as agreed and more than reasonable. The food provided is very good and they considered allergies and diets. I personally had a good time with everyone but I knew other colleagues had a harder time with the owners and other bosses. Sometimes the communication with the local staff is difficult due to the language barrier, but you can always count on the managers who speak English to help you.
