Come to our ranch in Guatemala and work with horses!

The guest house is a true gem that offers an authentic and warm introduction to Guatemala. I spent two weeks in December volunteering at the guest house and had an amazing time. I have had a heartily welcome. My main responsibility was taking care of the horses, which are all friendly but can sometimes be challenging to handle. Therefore, experience with horses and riding skills are essential! I also helped out in the bakery, which was very interesting. The tasks were varied and gave a lot of freedom. The accommodation was simple, located in the middle of the jungle, but without hot water.

I really enjoyed my experience at the farm, the place is beautiful and it's amazing to be able to explore it on horseback. The workshop and restaurant teams are friendly and I felt very free. Too free? Not much information was given about the work to be done and the horses (some are a bit wild, which is surprising when you don't know), I would have appreciated being more supervised sometimes. It was difficult for me to create a real bond with the teams and without the other volunteers I would have felt a bit alone.

I have mixed feelings about my experience. It is stated in the description that you can get by with fluent English, but almost all employees only speak Spanish. The employees were always super helpful and patient. The property you live on is huge and beautiful, you can move freely around. At work you have a lot of freedom with the horses and you can spread it out over the day. Working with most horses is really fun. But not much is told about the work and you have to find everything out yourself, including the horses (some of them bite and/or kick). But I learned a lot, even if it wasnt easy.

The guest house has the potential to be a great experience. The finca is so beautiful, the swimming pond is amazing, you have access to so much food, the host is really open and flexible about working and hours, the host allowed us to use a car to go to the river or into town, and the staff can be really caring and kind. The horses are very wild, they will kick and bite. This job is best for people very experienced w/ horses. Speaking Spanish is also very important. It is difficult to navigate the work and finca without spanish.

I had a great experience working with the horses and riding. The finca is a beautiful place where you are immersed in nature. The volunteer bedrooms and outdoor showers are just the basics. Full access to the kitchen. It often doesn't feel like any indoor space exists, you are always outside with spiders, tarantulas, ticks, etc. and this should be considered seriously. Riding on the trails was absolutely incredible and there was so much freedom in the work. I met other kind and fun volunteers, but there was no leadership to guide us and few safety standards with the horses.

The experience at the Finca was very nice. We had a lot of freedom, Maria the host was very nice. You can spend a lot of time with the horses there and the people at the workshop are super nice and very helpful even if you don't really speak Spanish. And they really try to help you to learn some Spanish, the same with the people in the restaurant. They were also very helpful when you try to learn some Spanish. I was there for two months and it can get very quiet over there, but they are most of the time other volunteers, which who I had a lot of fun with.

Overall this was a cool experience, especially if you speak spanish so you can communicate with the staff. if not it's a great opportunity to learn! maria the host definitely has her favourites, which seemed unfair at times, but overall she was welcoming. sometimes we were asked to help in the kitchen/waiting tables, which wasn't in the description or agreed on beforehand. the horses and the guys who work in the workshop are great, you have a lot of freedom to do what you want. going to the lake for a swim is the perfect way to cool off and i made so many amazing friends.

This experience was a childhood dream coming true! Im so deeply grateful for everything i got to do here. The work was sometimes not clear, but maria is very flexible and chill. She expects you to try and work 5-6 hours a day and you get 2 days off. The work with the horses doesnt feel like work at all. You feed them at 7, take care of them (brush, detick, sometimes wash) and ride them (alone, with other volunteers or with tourists). If this was done you could help out in the kitchen (mostly dishes) or some projects they were working on. Make sure you speak some spanish tho!

My experience at the Finca didn't go how I expected. I applied as an english teacher but when I arrived I was asked to work at the restaurant as a waitress. I explain I didn't feel comfortable doing that so I was ask to leave earlier the place. Otherwise the facilities were good (I had my own private room) and the staff was welcoming. I believe if you go there to work with the horses is an amazing volunteer opportunity!

I had an amazing time staying here and they even took my out to experience a local Guatemalan Christmas! The maintenance work was different and had tasks from sanding and varnishing chairs to planting trees. All the staff were really nice and understanding. I would recommend being able to speak a bit of Spanish as it will help a lot. I would definitely recommend!
