Volunteering in Hostel & the hostel was such a great experience! The staff and Rowan were really nice and explained us everything in the beginning. They also recommended us where to buy cheap groceries, which pubs to go to and which events are for free. Lara and I volunteered in housekeeping and it was very managable. The hours were perfect, you could definetely sleep in and after work you still have time to do something. Zwolle is a really lovely city with many shops, markets and pretty parcs!! And with its great location we could explore many cities in the Netherlands e.g. Rotterdam.

I had such an amazing time at Hostel & the hostel. I made some lifelong friends during my time there. Rowan, Nick and Jot were incredibly supportive - they were always helping us figure out how to attend local sporting and music events. The work is fulfilling and everybody is very helpful, though night shift can be tiring at times. No doubt the best part of my experience was getting to know the local employees, exploring the local area and getting a true cultural exchange. Bennie's fam - please let me know when any of you come to Australia! Danke je wel and doei doei!

The time I spent in the hostel was amazing, everyone is very friendly and willing to help when you need it. the work consists of arranging and cleaning the rooms and common areas and it is not difficult and the schedules allow you to have the rest of the day available to do other things. the food is delicious (especially the pizza!) and the atmosphere of the restaurant/the hostel is also really pleasant. I was extremely satisfied with the stay. the city is not very large and therefore not at all distracting but there is everything you need and also various attractions and ways to spend the time🫶🏻

I felt at home and had the chance to meet amazing people. The tasks were easy to complete and you can have free breakfast and dinner the days you work. I also really improved my English because everyone speaks it there. I would like to return in the near future. Thank you for the incredible experience, especially to Rowan and all the wonderful colleagues I had the pleasure of working with :)

I spent 1 month at the hostel and I couldn't have asked for a better first volunteering experience. I worked as a housekeeper and it was very straightforward, everything was explained on the first day and any questions I had afterwards were answered happily. You get 4 hours to clean rooms and a half hour break so there's no stress about finishing on time. Paid staff work sat/sun to help with the influx of rooms needing to be cleaned on weekends. The owners and all the employees are super nice. If I get the chance to, I will definitely come back!! (Even just to visit for pizza night)

Volunteering here was the best decision :). The work is absolutely manageable and the working hours with breaks are always adhered to very well. It's also great that you are warmly welcomed into the team from day 1 and really feel at home. I had a really great time with all the workers, the food and the beautiful city. I also gaint a lot of experience in Hostel work and restaurant work! Zwolle is a beautiful little town that not only has lovely parks and shopping streets to offer, but is also perfect for walking and running. The time here at Bennies was unforgettable and highly recommended! :)

I had a fantastic time at the hostel! The volunteer accommodations were spacious and comfortable. As part of the cleaning crew, the expectations were reasonable and easy to manage, and the schedule was perfectly balanced, leaving plenty of free time to explore and enjoy the area. The staff were kind and welcoming. I enjoyed the chance to interact with locals and get a real taste of Dutch culture. The town was so charming, with plenty of peaceful spots to relax. The food was definitely a highlight—restaurant-quality meals and drinks on working days!

I really enjoyed my time! The people are awesome - super understanding and nice to be around. I did night shift and that was easy. There isn't too much involved and everyone is helpful in case something goes wrong. You might need to adjust your sleep schedule a bit, but on the plus side you wake up to a really tasty cooked breakfast. The hostel itself is nice. The shared dorm room is ok, definitely only a place for sleeping. But there's the guest kitchen and restaurant/the hostel to chill. The cooked meals you get are also really good. Overall I'd definitely recommend this place!

I had a great time in this hostel! Nick, Jot and Rowen were always there to help and they made me feel really welcomed. They were always trying to make sure that the volunteers had a good time. We had plenty of free time, the tasks are not hard and they don't take a lot of time. You are only required to work 3 or 4 days, which is very nice. Zwolle is a small town, so it can get a bit boring 😅 The volunteers room is spacious and comfortable, but the kitchen is a little bit small. You can have breakfast and dinner they days that you are working, and it's made by the hostel staff so it's great.

Hostel & the hostel has been my first volunteering experience and I couldn't be more proud to start my journey in Zwolle. Everyone in the staff ( and Bennie) were so nice and the food was good. The Netherlands is a lovely country and Zwolle is a very peaceful city. The only bad thing is that the public transport is very expensive, but apart from that Hostel & the hostel is an experience I highly recommend!!
