The host provides a warm and hospitable environment. It was an amazing 1st volunteering experience for me on the World Packers platform. I achieved my goal to localise myself and learn about true Malaysian Cuisine. The host has exceptional knowledge on various topic and is an open book, willing to impart her life experience to others. The host provides flexibility in daily working schedule, accommodation is decent and location is fantastic, Just expect to have a 10.30pm curfew. Highly recommended. Expect this to not be a social to meet many travellers but to learn to be a Malaysian in KL.

We had a great stay with Lili and her mother Popo at Sarang Cookery! With them we could have a taste of the great Peranakan Cuisine and Culture! We supported Lili in many tasks, from buying fresh products in the local market and preparing the ingredients for usage in the classes, to taking photos of the students in action (during the classes) and keeping everything clean and arranged for the next day the host. They treated us like family and it was very nice to be there sharing our days with them. If we go back to KL we'll sure try to get to Sarang Cookery once again! Many thanks, Lili & Popo

Our experience at Sarang Cookery could not have been better. Lili and Popo are amazing people and we felt right at home. We were lucky to be able to accompany them on their visits to the local markets to buy the fresh ingredients they use in their classes and in their daily lives. In fact, tasting their delicious cuisine was another highlight of our time there. They always fed us very well, with delicious food, made with love. Spending time with them, sharing our days while we helped with the chores, taught us a lot about the local culture and customs. It was a truly rewarding experience!

Stella & Diego joined us at Sarang Cookery as volunteers for our cooking classes, and we became like family. Warm, friendly, respectful, they brought great energy and dedication to everything they did. Proactive and reliable, they never said "I don't know"—instead, they found solutions and completed tasks with a smile. From waking up early to join us at the market to sharing breakfast and laughs, they gave their full heart to the experience. Truly the kind of volunteers you'll ever wish for.

I had an amazing experience at Sarang Cookery. I had an opportunity to assist them in the host, leveraging my marketing and web development skills during my time which was really fulfilling and exciting. The host was really friendly and her mom and they swede really supportive since I arrived. The food was always amazing and the bonus was being able to participate in one of their classes and of-course enjoy the tradition Malaysian cuisine. I highly recommend this experience to anyone.

Lili and Pipo are two incredible, hard-working women with so much heart. I learned not only about the host, but also about dedication and generosity . They open their home with love, ready to give and receive with open arms. Their warmth and kindness made me feel welcome and valued from the very first moment. They're also flexible and understanding, just be sure to communicate in advance. I truly loved my time with them, the visits to the markets were the best!. It felt like becoming part of a family.

I really enjoyed my time at the host studio. We got to learn about local food, markets and overall culture. For me it took some time to get used to the communication style. Lili and Popo are very sweet people and I'm very thankful for the wonderful experience.

My experience at Sarang Cookery was great! I leaned a lot about peranakan the host and culture. I got to participate in a lot of local experiences like going to a wholesale fish market where you got to see mass quantities of ocean fish and sharks, Chinese New Year with Lili and Popo's family, and lots of recommendations on local night markets which was awesome. Got to meet a lot of interesting people and build relationships with other volunteers. I would recommend this experience.

Thank you for your feedback and for volunteering with us. You are free to go out anytime, as long as you return by 10pm—this rule is for us to have enough rest. On one occasion, we only advised against going out at 9:30pm due to rain, as we didn’t want you to fall sick. We clearly state that only breakfast and lunch are provided. Whenever we cook dinner, we’re happy to offer it, but if we don’t, it means we didn’t cook that day. Any confusion, we would love to clarify immediately if you asked.

During our stay as woofers, my partner and I were disappointed by the distribution of tasks: 70% cleaning and tidying, 20% creating video content, and only 10% dedicated to the host, which did not match our expectations. Although the host was welcoming, some inappropriate remarks created discomfort. We also had to cut our stay short from 10 to 6 days, because the work did not match the host lessons advertised. We do not understand why woofing was paid without an evening meal in exchange for the work done. Thanks for the hospitality and the room was clean!

Thank you for your feedback & volunteering. Cooking is not the main responsibility of volunteers. Volunteers main role is to support our cooking classes which includes cleaning, preparing ingredients, setting up stations to ensure a smooth experience for our guests. If your main goal is to learn cooking, we recommend joining as a student instead. Only breakfast and lunch are provided as stated. For dinner, we encourage you to explore the nearby local night market.

My stay was nice, Lili showed me around and recommended many activities to do, work was as described. Only down side was her way of speaking to me (she talked to me with orders like if I were a servant more than a guest ex I would say good morning and she would respond with hurry and go eat breakfast or things like that) but in general she is nice and welcoming

Sayra,

Thanks for your help & feedback. We’re running a real business with paying guests, it’s only me and elderly mom managing everything. So when things get busy, like before a morning class, I do need to tell you directly to hurry up with breakfast so we get things ready in time. Volunteering here means being part of the team, helping with responsibilities, understanding and love. Of course, there’s time to enjoy after our guests has left & when we could slow down. Best wishes to you
