Help with everyday work at Buddhist temple lodging

I'd always wanted to experience a Shukubo and was lucky enough to be able to live and work in one for a month. I got to immerse myself in the beautiful nature in the area, learn about Nichiren Buddhism, shukubo and Japanese culture. Both the volunteers and Japanese staff work well together in one big team. I met so many lovely people, it was sad to say goodbye. It was truly a unique and unforgettable experience!

I had a wonderful time during my stay. We formed a great family, I met people from many countries. The town is wonderful, surrounded by forests, nature, and Buddhist temples. The sound of bells and prayers is very pleasant and calming, far from the hustle and bustle of big cities. I'm going to miss my mates, the Japanese staff and my lovely Junko!

It was a wonderful experience. I met many interesting people, learned about Japanese culture and history, experienced rice farming, trekking, music, rituals, travel, fantastic food, and especially the nature that Minobu San has to offer. Without a doubt, a wonderful place, and one that I will miss.

This was truly an experience for me. Seeing Japanese culture and work life from a whole new perspective. It will be plenty of work, but fear not because everyone is working hard together!

My stay at the host was amazing. Thank you to Junko-san and Zeko-san for hosting me and making me feel welcomed in your home. And to the rest of the Japanese staff it was fun working with all of you! I was able to make lifelong friends here. There is a lot of nature surrounding the area so its a good spot for hiking. The work is easy and there was nothing to complain about. If you come with a good attitude and open mind then you will have a great time.

This is a place with rules, ways of doing things, quite politeness and respect are mandatory! Generous and kind locals, with the most heart warm japonese workers/staff ever. The monastery is stunning and privileged to experience from inside. The around nature don't stays behind, perfect place for found tranqulity and balance. Last, just a humongous thank you! To everyone with no exceptions. From volunteers, owners, staff. 🙏

Thank you to this place, I am so lucky with it, it's even sad, I think I won't find anything better) We started at 8am, had breakfast, worked until lunch. Then free time until dinner at 8pm very tasty Japanese food. The place itself is incredibly beautiful, I was there in February, clearly not the most beautiful time, but still the views are breathtaking, fresh air, pleasant fatigue after walks, constant beauty around. Thanks to the host family, I hope to come back here, maybe having learned a little Japanese) the host and the people really took a special place in my heart)

Nature, mountains and meals included. Ideal for people who want to experience Japanese culture. It is 5 days of work and 2 days off, mostly cleaning tasks and preparing rooms for guests.

I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude for accepting me and giving me the opportunity to be part of your team. Every single moment of this experience was unique and truly authentic. I will cherish it dearly, as well as the invaluable lessons I learned each and every day. The knowledge and richness I gained during my time here are beyond comparison. Regarding the work, the tasks were simple, and collaborating with the other volunteers made everything even more enjoyable and fulfilling. A special thank you to Junko-san, Zeko-san, and all the Japanese staff for the kindness.
