During my experience with the host Bricin, I faced numerous challenges that greatly affected my overall satisfaction. I felt my efforts were often overly criticised, and I didn't receive any appreciation for tasks done correctly. Additionally, some personal traits were commented in ways that felt hurtful. Mostly, I felt my generosity, efforts and time were not appreciated. The only enjoyable aspects of my time there were unrelated to the volunteering tasks. Improving relationship dynamics and communication, could significantly enhance the volunteer experience.

By far the worst World Packers experience yet... we haven't even taken on anyone since because of our experience. Incompetent, rude, not aware of his surroundings walking through guests when grumpy cleaning, no good with kids at all, bad at taking directions, painfully slow 17 beds 3 bathrooms in 8hrs). A sore loser when playing games with guests & kids, no attention 2 detail, not motivated or pro active, would complain about tasks. over 25 world packers and 7 yrs of guests he was the first person 2 make our daughter cry, talks very loud 2 himself complaining even screaming at times to himself while doing agreed upon tasks.
My abusive instagram message was
"Don't you ever touch this fireplace again you almost caused a fire" ( didn't close the fireplace door to lock it and a burning log hit the glass opening the door sucking in a dangerous draft and causing sparks to shoot out the door... Marius had no idea we were really lucky Patricia caught this intime....the instagram post before that was "It's time to pack your bags this is enough"

This was an amazing experience. The nature around is stunning and the hostel experience is like no other. You become part of the family and they welcome you in with open arms and are eager to learn about other cultures.

Where do we start! Big Daniel was a boss!! He overlooked 10 world packers in the four months he spent with us and meshed perfectly with everyone!!! A Solid World Packer!! Takes charge!! Gets shit done!!! Takes responsibility!! Very accountable!! Very proactive!! Does all the right things to keep things tidy clean and rolling!! Very Trustworthy! Smart and a big heart!! Very adventurous and competitive. Can be silly and never will shy away from a good time..

Hosts if Daniel applies to your project snap him up fast no questions!! No worries you in good hands!! A drivin strong young man that gets it!!! Detail detail detail!!

Such an amazing experience!! Loved every minute of it:) The tasks are clear, easy, you can ask a hundred times and Patricia with her endless patience will explain it all over again. Bricin gives you one hell of an insight into the culture, always takes you on adventures and makes sure to make the most of the time. The kids will never fail to put a smile on your face. 100% recommend applying!!! Had the best time ever:))

I have had the best time at the highland hostel! I want to thank Bricin, Patricia, Billie, Cash and Pete for the amazing time. They really take you into their family. This was my home away from home. Bricin takes you on adventures around the area when you are done with the work. The work is really easy and fun to do. Patricia is always there for any questions and makes sure everything is well organised. Also she makes sure there is food on the table, big thanks for everything! If you are a social and awesome person, just go and apply! You will not regret this experience!

I arrived in Canada knowing absolutely no one. Two months later I departed the hostel and genuinely felt like part of the family and community. Bricin, Patricia and Peter go above and beyond to make you feel welcome and included in every adventure, event and meal. Billie and Cash are awesome kids and an absolute blast to play games, go on adventure hikes and beach trips with. I can't thank the family enough for everything they do for the crew, an amazing experience filled with many great memories and new friends!

I don't think I'll find anything quite like the hostel again. An amazing place that has for sure set the standards high. There is a great balance of a few hours work and time off, and the atmosphere is very relaxing. Bricin makes sure that you're always involved and goes out of his way to incorporate North Cape Breton culture into most things - whether that be awesome live fiddle music, wood runs, beach visits, or meeting the locals. Patricia is the absolute sweetest person on Earth and is an incredible cook; and Pete, Billy and Cash are all so lovely as well. 100/10 would recommend.

The hostel was my first volunteer experience on Worldpackers and I think now they have set very high standards for me haha Bricin and his family were the best host I can imagine! I experienced so many good things in that month and really didn't want to leave the Hostel... Bricin makes sure we are doing a lot of activities every day and drives us around to a lot of great places like beaches, lakes or scenic view points. I will miss the fires every night at the Hostel and was really happy to be in the Hostel crew! I would recommend everyone to come here, you will not regret it!

My best experience with worldpackers so far! Incredible month in the hostel with a lot of fun learning new things and meeting people from all over the world. Work is 2 or 3 hours a day which is nothing compared to what you receive from the family and thats why you ve to make sure you give your 100% when working. And what to say about the family, they are amazing! Bricin is awesome and will take care you see the best spots in cape breton, Patricia is the kindest person I ever met always making sure you feel like in home and the kids are so fun, inteligent and creative. Miss you all!

The hostel will make a huge impacto in your life. In here I made, by far the best memories of all my wanderings around Canadá. The place is amazing, the energy and the vibes of all the people here is so true and unique. Is a place you can call home and people you can call family. I will do It all again with no hesitation, Highlans hostel is pure life!

Awesome Amazing Lovely Wonderful Sweet Admirable Funny Nice....This whole words are not enough for the hostel!!! Perfect experience, period. 2 months there was like dreaming. I feel really really thankful for them and i learned so many things from them. If u choose here, you would be with the most lovely family in the world!! And U can explore so many hidden spot in Cape North which is perfect to be friends with nature!! Come on everyone!!Go for it!!!
