This experience wasn't what I expected. There's no paid staff, so volunteers do everything. The hosts have high expectations but provide the guest house training. The shifts are 11-3, but you often have to stay late to finish the laundry. You don't interact with the guests and there's only 2 other volunteers. The beds are very worn down and uncomfortable, and the dorm is cramped (it's not what's shown in the photos, those are the rooms you clean.) They provide groceries, but the kitchen is small and smells quite bad. York is lovely though and the hosts were understanding when I had to leave early.

My experience was ok, I didn't meet the hosts but they seem to be good people. The place is not like in the photos, it's actually very small and the bed is uncomfortable. About the meals, they give you 40 pounds per week to divide between the three volunteers (which in my opinion is not enough). The working hours are ok

We never met Sara as she arrived while we were on holiday. Normally we go ourselves to buy the food but as we were away we decided to leave money instead. I'm sorry if it was not enough, if you would have let us know then we could have increased it. It was also never mentioned that the bed was uncomfortable and if you would have let us know then I could have replaced it.
I'm sorry you didn't have a 5⭐ experience with us and if only you could have communicated better then these two issues could

The tasks were very simple and manageable, Katrin and Johnny are really kind and with an open communication and quick solving problems. Thank you for the opportunity!

Unfortunately we did not have a good experience with camila. She was was not able to do simple tasks no matter how much we tried to explain things to her, she seemed disinterested. The main problem was the complaints from the other volunteers that they did not want to share a room with her because her personal hygiene was very bad. We tried to help her but the situation did not improve so unfortunately we had to ask her to leave early to respect the other volunteers who shared a room with her.

The two owners Katie and Johnny were pleasant to speak to mostly The standards are high which I very much respected The work was more than agreed as theres multiple laundry to do after the rooms which goes on into early evening Starting at 11am so it turns into a long day To be fair I enjoy laundry though I could recognise it went over the 5 hours and instead of appreciating the effort I was putting in I was made to feel that somehow I was doing something wrong It says three meals a day though the food was very basic and didnt last the full week I asked for more but was turned down

I loved my time in York with Johnny, Katrin & one other volunteer. The city is beautiful and the work was easy enough with plenty of time to explore the city or nearby towns. We shared a private space in one of the rooms with two single beds and a kitchen which was perfect and Katrin and Johnny were really good at regularly communicating what needed to be done. I'd highly recommend!

It was an exceptional experience with Catherine and Johnny Johnny and their charming daughter. We were able to share many wonderful moments around dinner. I was also able to improve my English and discover some wonderful new places around York. The location is great for going out and sightseeing. Everything is within walking distance and the city is really beautiful.

My first Worldpackers experience was fantastic! Katrin and Johnny were wonderful hosts who always made sure I was comfortable. They gave me great tips for exploring York and nearby cities. I loved playing with their daughter Emily, and baby Louisa is adorable. The work was simple, and I had plenty of time to explore the city. The guest house was conveniently located near the train station and city center. I had an incredible time thanks to them. I highly recommend this experience.

My experience with Katie and Johnny was incredible! They are kind and attentive and made me feel at home! The tasks are mostly housekeeping and helping with painting the witches' new house. Johnny does an impressive job as a carpenter! Working hours are as agreed and you often work less than 5 hours a day. I recommend this experience to anyone who wants to help a family that is running their own business and enjoy getting to know York and nearby cities! The Guest House is super well located! In a 15 minutes walk you will be at the train station and in 25 minutes in the city center!

My time with Jonny and Katy was really healing and exciting as a first time solo-traveller. I felt comfortable within their home, got to know their family, and connected with the girl with whom I shared the room. The work is incredibly reasonable and I even got to help with some construction, which was really nice after losing a lot of my tool access after graduation from university. They taught us some traditional games, we ate at their house weekly, and they had great suggestions for what to do in York. York is very beautiful, calm, and full of local culture. Thanks to them both!
