On a good note, everyone working at this school is sweet. However, overall my experience was horrible working with them on the professional side due to a lack of organization. The day I got there they started moving where I was going to stay. I was told so many different things by the same people, and this put me in an unsafe position. It was 3am the day that I was supposed to move into a the hostel. I had no exact plan on where to go, what time to go, who to meet, where I could leave my stuff. I don't recommend working with them if you care about these things.

We invited Noah to join in with our group chat and New Years Eve celebrations before his volunteering was due to start.

As you can see from our profile on worldpackers we have comprehensive documents detailing all details of the program.

Noah did not spend a single night with us and did not show up for this experience .

We can only conclude that the intensity of Rio was too much for him.

Vidigal is a very safe place, any quick Google search will show this.

Had a fantastic time volunteering and staying in the hostel. Got on very well with my fellow volunteers and everyone involved with the classes and house, had a great experience teaching English to the locals. Highly recommend this experience as much as I enjoyed my time in Rio before volunteering, I enjoyed my time after I started volunteering more so.

The team made me feel welcome and at home and there was a nice bunch of volunteers too. The accommodation is comfortable, has a nice relaxed vibe and is close to nice beaches. Being in a favela it is hard to avoid lots of stairs but you can reduce these by taking mototaxies most of the way up and down. The teaching was generally enjoyable but your individual impact is variable depending on who shows up on the day and how motivated they are, which I imagine is difficult to overcome for free after school programs. Overall a great experience, a special place and welcoming and thoughtful team.

I had a so instructive experience, I want to thank Larry, James and Lydia for the opportunity they gave me. I discovered a reality I wasn't aware. The location is good and the teaching is not complicated, so even people not English mother tongue, like me, can be useful. The agreement conditions were fully respected. Thanks a lot!

The hostel on Vidigal is one the best experience is anyone can have in Rio. Located in one of the most amazing places with breathtaking view of the ocean,in one of the most cultural places, you escape from the everyday life of the big and boring cities, you come into contact with the locals who are very warm . The hosts are welcoming and they make you feel like home. Teaching English to kids and adults in Vidigal is so rewarding and you get to meet locals even better.Always will be an activity to do.Highly recommended for those who want to offer and get engaged with locals.

Best experience of my life. James Lydia Larry and Victor are all amazing human beings who will help you along your journey here. Vidigal is amazing. Be prepared for a life changing experience. The people I taught/worked with were fantastic, never made me feel incompetent even when I wasn't fully prepared for a class, and made teaching feel like a privilege and an honor. I will never forget the time I got to share here.

It is a beautiful project !! The children and adults are adorable and have a lot of interest in learning i love the whole experience. I hope to offer something more to the community because I was very moved by them.

Mi experiencia en el hostel no pudo haber sido mejor!!! Te reciben con los brazos abiertos y te hacen sentir parte de todo. Gracias a ellos conseguí bonitas amistades, me sumergí en la cultura local y tuve un buen impacto social al poder enseñar inglés a personas con pocos recursos. Lo recomiendo muchísimo!!
