Detalhes
Social Media Manager is a seasonal, long term, leadership role. It is a managerial position; the responsibilities and expectations of which exceed that of the average, general short term volunteer. Social media and content creation are a very independent form of work, but it is important that you still recognise that you are a part of the community as a whole, and should therefore also concern yourself with understanding the every day life of Bognago. You are required to arrive at the beginning of May for training.
You will have one other individual as permanently part of the general "Office Team." Our old Social Media Manager, who will take on a different role this year (networking, event management/organsiation, and fundraising) will be working closely with you to support you in your new role with brainstorming, as well as taking on small individual tasks of content creation.
As Social Media Master you will need to have excellent organisation, delegation, communication and collaboration skills. Although you can delegate certain individual tasks to others, you will be the one who always has to have the bigger picture overview of our entire online presence - you will need to have a long term plan active in your head, and a consistent schedule, as well as being able to leave space for spontaneity and inspiration of the every day!
Being part of the managerial circle of Alpe Bognago means you are stepping into a job where you play a massive role and hold a huge responsibility for the smooth running and success of the entire Organisation; understanding and respecting this is crucial to understanding this entire project.
Atividades & Turnos
A typical day as Social Media Master is hard to describe as there is no exact every day schedule to your work. There is a designated office area where you will have the space for your work. Together with the Alpe Bognago Project Director a long term social media plan will be made at the beginning of each month. Every Monday morning a brief meeting about that weeks content will take place. The standard volunteer hours in exchange for room/board are 5hrs/day, specifically from 8am to 13pm. You will use these 5 hours as needed - one day might be all about filming, while the next one is spent in the office, editing. There's definitely a lot of variation.
Any past experience with content creation, social media strategy, and editing are almost a requirement. Apart from the obvious skills and experience that are needed to be a content creator and social media manager there are also some soft skills you need to be able to do well here in your role, namely, task juggling! You will have to be very present in the every day life of Bognago and know what is going on with other managers and their teams, to be able to be in the right place at the right time to film content. Similarly, you will need to be engaged with and actually understand all the projects that are simultaneously happening in Bognago to convey them impact fully. You need to be incredibly self disciplined and excellently organised to be able to work in this role as it really all depends on you individually - but one thing is for sure, you need to be extremely proactive with your role.
Bognago is a very unique place, with a unique story, and great people. Ultimately, it is your core goal to authentically capture and convey our story to the rest of the world. And that means you need time to experience it.
Regras
Working in Bognago also means understanding and adapting to the challenges of its remote off-grid location. Being a 45 min. hike away from civilisation, and another 45 min. drive to the closest big town, means the every day life and considerations that go into that are quite different than what you may be used to. This means you will have to be incredibly sensitive to the lack of convenience of the lifestyle here, as well as our financial situation and very strict budget.
Alpe Bognago is a very young volunteer project; our funds are therefore extremely limited, and social media plays a crucial role in that. For our project to grow successfully in this day and age one of the most important aspects is our online presence. This will dictate so much of the exposure and support that we receive. Especially financial support. Fundraising is a huge part of how we function as an organisation and will take a much bigger role this year. Needless to say, its a big responsibility.
Being one of the department managers in Bognago means we will hold you to a higher standard than short term volunteers. We will ask you to learn the ways of life here faster and better, to be an example to new volunteers and help upkeep standards and rules, and we will constantly wish for your initiative and input to make this place and your experience here the best it can be. We need you to have the attitude that you are coming here to work together with us, not wait until you are given instructions. Bognago is built on the values of community, honesty, and respect; respect for each other, your work, your environment. We ask you to take your role here both seriously and joyously, and are ready to share a wonderful summer with you if we are on the same page.
