Detalhes
Worldpacking here is about becoming part of our daily rhythm and living in community with us - not just “helping out.” You’ll live on-site in a private cabin and be woven into the life of our small canoe outfitter.
Our land is off-grid and the nearest town is a 40 minute drive away. This means that life looks a little different here and every day is an adventure. Living here is to live closely with nature. Power is run by generators, cabins do not have plumbing (we use the sauna to bathe), and toilets are outhouses.
We generally ask for about 20–25 hours of help per week, usually spread over 4–5 days. The work is hands-on and varies with the season, weather, and what’s most needed on the land. Some weeks will be more focused on building or repairs, others on outdoor projects, gardening, or helping with canoe operations.
Sometimes we will be working side-by-side, offering guidance and collaboration. Other times we will assign tasks and you and the other volunteers will take responsibility for those tasks.
In return, we love learning from our Worldpackers — your stories, skills, traditions, food, language, music, and ways of seeing the world. Evenings often become a space for conversation around the fire, shared meals, swapping life experiences, and exploring what it means to live well and intentionally.
In exchange for your help, you receive:
- A private lakeside cabin to call home.
- Access to the lake, canoes, and surrounding wilderness.
- Compensation for weekly groceries.
- Learning opportunities in building, off-grid living, and small business growth.
- A slower, more grounded way of life.
Atividades & Turnos
Typical days might look like:
- A shared family breakfast
- A few focused hours of work in the morning
- Time in the afternoon to swim, paddle, rest, explore, or create
- Occasional shared meals, evening fires, or quiet solo time.
On days off you are welcome to use a canoe and borrow some gear to spend time exploring the beautiful Algonquin Park. If you're interested in exploring we have lots of good spots to recommend! Otherwise, swim in the lake, explore nearby trails, read in a hammock, or simply rest and soak in the quiet. This is an ideal spot for people who want to improve their backcountry camping experience and enjoy the outdoors.
We also have a sauna on property that we enjoy using in the evenings and is open to worldpackers.
Otherwise, the nearest town is called Sundridge - 40 minutes away. In town is a nice beach, coffee shop, yoga studio, wing restaurant and grocery store.
Having your own vehicle is helpful but not required. We occasionally make trips into town and can sometimes coordinate rides. Some people choose to arrive by bus and settle into the slower rhythm of life here.
Regras
