Detalhes
We are a small Ecuadorian NGO in Parroquia Tarqui, a tiny neighboring town of Puyo (Amazon region).
As a group of four people (three are locals) we started our rescue project in 2019.
We rescue dogs and cats, take care of them in a private shelter/home to support their healing and giving them the best chance to be adopted.
It´s an important goal of our project to create awareness among the population of the importance to protect animals and to change the habit to keep animals without a proper care.
As one of our members, Renato, is a veterinarian who runs a small clinic in Puyo we use this facility for spaying/neutering and other surgeries and treatments of the rescued dogs and cats.
We are cooperating with a private English school in Puyo.
"We are an Advanced English Preparation Center committed to excellence in language education, and we warmly invite native English speakers to join our cultural exchange program.
Our advanced-level students are highly motivated to improve their fluency, pronunciation, and listening skills by interacting with speakers from different cultural backgrounds and English accents. The program focuses on real communication, interactive activities, and meaningful cultural exchange.
In return for your participation, we are pleased to offer snacks, local trips, and accommodation, allowing you to enjoy a rich cultural experience while contributing to the learning journey of our students.
We would be honored to welcome you and share this enriching experience together."
Atividades & Turnos
English school (3-6:30pm):
Holding conversation sessions with students to practice real-life English.
Assessing and giving feedback on students’ English level, focusing on fluency, pronunciation, vocabulary, and comprehension.
Describing images and visual materials to model language use and help students develop speaking and descriptive skills.
Recording short videos (conversations, explanations, or descriptions) so students can review the content later and reinforce their learning.
Playing vocabulary games to help students learn and practice new words in a fun and memorable way.
Sharing their culture, traditions, and daily life experiences to promote cultural awareness.
Sharing gastronomy by cooking simple traditional dishes with students while using English as the main language of communication.
Daily care of the dogs at the shelter:
- cleaning the refuge
- feeding 1-3x a day
- giving medications to dogs and cats in recovery
- daily walks
- occasionally some building and maintenance work is necessary to conserve and improve the enclosures, housing etc.
- occasionally bringing dogs to the vet in Puyo
- occasionally help with the rescue activities
Most of the time the volunteer schedule is from 9am to 12 but afternoon shifts (1pm-4pm) can be required instead.
The two free days can be arranged in a partly flexible way every week as at the shelter they are taken individually (only the three days at the English school are determinate.
Regras
It is crucial to love dogs and cats, to be comfortable around them and to be willing to do all tasks involved with their daily care.
You need to be prepared for rainy weather and a muddy environment at the shelter (although this can vary a lot but our region is quite rainy during the whole year).
We expect a responsible and considered behavior not only at the shelter but also at the volunteer house. All daily and weekly cleaning tasks need to be shared by the volunteers and it is very important to do your part so that living together is as comfortable as possible for everyone.
At the English school it is important to be aware of your function of a role model for the young students so your physical appearance and behavior should be according to this requirement.
