The Peace for Development Refugees Initiative (PDRI) is seeking a dedicated volunteer, preferably from the United States of America, to serve as a Liaison Officer supporting our Peace Center Project. While a U.S. volunteer is highly encouraged due to the strong engagement needed with the U.S. Embassy in Nairobi, qualified volunteers from other continents outside Africa are also welcome to apply.

This role will help strengthen communication and collaboration between the Peace Center and the U.S. Embassy, as well as 10 additional embassies (South Sudan, Somalia, D.R. Congo, Sudan, Burundi, Rwanda, Uganda, Tanzania, Ethiopia, and Eritrea representing nationalities dominant in Kakuma Refugee Camp and Kalobeyei Settlement.

Key Responsibilities
• Visit Kakuma Refugee Camp to meet:
o PDRI leadership
o Community Leaders from multiple nationalities including women, youth and religious leaders,
o Peace Center representatives
• Gather insights and firsthand information on key refugee issues, especially those arising from global humanitarian funding cuts.
• Serve as a communication bridge between PDRI and the U.S. Embassy in Nairobi.
• Support PDRI’s advocacy efforts by preparing background notes, summaries, and presentations for embassy engagements.
• Accompany PDRI in meetings with the U.S. Embassy and up to eight additional Nairobi-based embassies.
• Help promote Peace Center activities globally, including supporting visibility efforts through social media or public communication channels.
Why This Role Matters?
Refugees are among the most affected by regional conflicts, such as the devastating crisis in the Democratic Republic of Congo. PDRI believes that those directly impacted are best placed to raise their concerns and help shape solutions.
This volunteer role will contribute to:
• Strengthening peacebuilding efforts led by refugees for refugees
• Supporting diplomatic engagement for community-driven solutions
• Sharing urgent concerns related to humanitarian funding cuts
• Expanding the Peace Center’s influence across Kenya and eventually to refugees’ home countries
• Promoting messages of peace to refugees worldwide, including those already resettled abroad.
