I unfortunately did not have a good match with the hostel. I had underestimated my routine and had too much on my plate to commit to my volunteer duties at the hostel. The hostel is homey and cute. The staff were friendly and helpful. I was the only -non-Portuguese speaking volunteer, which left me out a bit - but they were welcoming and kind. The sleeping area is a windowless room that doesn't feel welcoming. The hostel owner was a kind and can-do man who was forgiving of my lack of ability to commit to my duties. I had to cut the time short and wish them all the best.
