I applied one day before I got there and the communication with Nisa was so good. She helped me find the right bus from the south to Kandy. I felt so welcomed and love their family. The only thing I reacted to was how dirty the room was and especially the bathroom was. And also not getting so much information about how the school and classes worked. It wasn't very organized with witch teacher who had which class and we didn't get any information about how to handle the kids and that we had to feed some of them. But overall a good experience and learnd about the culture, but one week was enough

Before you come to school, we provide important guidelines for every volunteer through Worldpackers.

Please make sure to check these documents before giving advice to others. They include essential information about our school.

Also, remember that this is not a hotel—it is a school. You are responsible for cleaning your own bathroom. Other volunteers are already familiar with these rules. If you have any questions, feel free to ask them.

I had an absolutely fantastic first Worldpackers experience staying with Nisa, Malik, and Melina! From the moment I arrived, they made me feel incredibly welcome. Their warmth and hospitality truly made it feel like home. I had the opportunity to volunteer at their school, which was an enriching and rewarding experience. I assisted in various activities, such as supporting the children with workbooks and crafts. Nisa, Malik, and Melina were wonderful hosts, always supportive and attentive, and helped organise trips during free time. An experience I will treasure for a lifetime!

This was my first experience volunteering in a school and it was absolutely amazing! The work itself was fun and meaningful, the kids are adorable and energetic. We worked less than 5 hrs per day all week days so there was plenty to do when not working too! The best part of this experience was definitely the host family though!! Nisa, Malik and Melina were amazing!! They are definitely my Sri Lankan family now!! They give you travel tips and advice, help with any and all problems you might bump into, every night is a private cozy cooking class in their home. They are the best!!!!

Nisa and Malik set the bar high for other hosts. This has been the most warm, welcoming stay ever. I felt part of the family so quickly and it'd been a while I've laughed so much in such a short time. They take care of you like your family would and the food is absolutely delicious. When you're not playing cards with them, you can discover Sri Lanka and they'll give you tips. Also working with the kids has been beyond expectations. They are so enthusiast and open and easy to entertain. You help them with their crafts, workbooks, dances… Big thanks to Nisa, Malik, Melina and Mashi and Molly.

Malik, Nisa and Melina (Mashi and Molly) are the nicest people and make you feel like home. They help you organize activities if you want to see around and are always there for you. I learned a lot about the local culture and food. The time we spent together after school, talking and playing cards, are among my best memories. The teaching experience at KGIS was great, the kids are cute and smart. It's definitely one of the best experiences I've had, and I recommend it 100%! I will miss my Sri Lankan family ❤️

When I arrived here I felt completely at home. Nisa, Malik and Melina take you in as if you're one of their own. I felt safe immediately. They really try to get the most out of your travels by giving you recommendations. They also give you space if needed. The kids are lovely, very eager to learn and meet new people. They are very openminded and easily attached, it was a pleasure teaching them and a difficult goodbye. I can only recommend coming to Sri Lanka and spend time with this family while volunteering here. They will forever be in my heart.

This is probably the best place where you can be a volunteer in Sri Lanka if you love kids! I had an amazing experience, no only teaching English to the funniest and cutest children, but also living with this loving family. I learned countless things from my life in KGIS, but most important, I made friends for life. I recommend this project if you like working with kids and want to have a truly local experience. I hope I can be back soon❤️
