My stay in the hostel was amazing! I had a really good time receiving pilgrims from all over the world, connecting with other volunteers and exploring the beautiful town of Salas. I will always remember the memories I made. Nicolaas was very kind and opened to communication, always making sure I was having a good time. Sometimes it can feel a little exhausting because there are many things to do in the Albergue, but your hours will be respected and the work is very rewarding! I'm already missing Salas :(

Thank you Nicolas for everything. It was one of the best volunteering I have done. 😊👍💖 The albergue is just beautiful, clean, and organized. ✨🏡😊 The job was really easy (cooking for me), and the town of Salas is alive in summer. ☀️🥳😎 We had a very good moment all together; it will stay forever in my heart. 🥰💖🌟

My experience at the the hostel in Salas was incredible. The work wasn't hard at all. I helped with housekeeping and preparing breakfast, and everything was very easy to do. Nicolas is very attentive to the hostel and always makes sure the activities are carried out. The town and the people of Salas are lovely.

Ik heb een ontzettend fijne, leerzame en leuke tijd gehad in Salas. De communicatie met Nicolaas verliep erg goed vanaf het begin. Het rooster werd altijd wekelijks en in overleg gemaakt waardoor ik wist wanneer ik mijn vrije dagen had en iets kon plannen. Wat ik heel erg waardeerde aan deze ervaring is dat ik veel vertrouwen voelde en daardoor de ruimte voelde nieuwe dingen te proberen. Zo heb ik voor het eerst voor een grotere groep gekookt, iets waar ik hiervoor geen ervaring mee had. Ook was het team waarmee ik werkte fantastisch! Kortom: een ervaring die ik iedereen aanraad!

This was such an enriching experience. I helped cook and serve dinner for pilgrims and most importantly, I got to enjoy the mealtime conversations, all incredibly moving and inspiring. Nicolaas is a generous host who deeply cares about creating a meaningful experience for pilgrims. He values structure and efficiency, which brings a sense of purpose to each day. While his approach can feel firm at times, it's all part of ensuring everything runs smoothly. I'd highly recommend this opportunity to anyone who enjoys contributing in a purposeful way and thrives in an organized, intentional setting.

I had a great time in Salas! Nicolaas was very kind and dedicated to making sure all the volunteers were happy. working hours were fair and the funding for food was generous, so we had lots of opportunities to try local restaurants. the town is beautiful, and i had lots of great nature time in the mountains. nicolaas did make a comment about sending an african volunteer home after a couple of days just because she didn't “fit in.” i'm not sure what exactly he meant by this, but it felt a little strange. just something i wanted to flag.

Work as a volunteer in the hostel was a great experience! Nicolas is friendly and work is quite easy. I could practice a lot of English and be in contact with people around the world. Salas is a beautiful village, with a lot of trails do go on hikes and be in contact with nature. However I decided to leave earlier because I was looking for a place to practice Spanish and Nicolas was really apprehensible. I wish all the best to the hostel and buen camino to all peregrines and volunteers.

I highly recommend it! The volunteer experience was incredible! I really enjoyed being part of the volunteer team, especially because it was something related to the Camino de Santiago. Nicolaas was always kind and attentive to me. The team of volunteers from various countries around the world was fun and welcoming. Thank you Nicolas, Cristina, Dana, Jordan and Sophie!

The opportunity to be in the albergue with Nicolaas and the team was a unique adventure in my life. I have learned so much about people, about myself, and about collective life. Nicolaas is a kind and purposeful soul that takes the albergue as his number 1 priority in life. For that, the work can become intense sometimes, but everything can be solved by talking and signaling what needs to change. Nicolaas was always very open and made sure I felt supported during my stay! Salas is a cute city, with kind people with a typical Asturias way of living.
