Dettagli del programma
I hope that visiting me can offer a visitor some unique experiences and opportunities to learn about Western Canadian culture and hospitality. I try to make sure that volunteers get to do fun things nearly every day (something they enjoy--like riding, hiking, sky watching, photography), frequently while we are doing our everyday errands.
I am also glad to help with English as a second language and have frequently organized a white board filled with words to increase English fluency and vocabulary. I do require a certain level of English competency from helpers for their own safety. If you are learning about animals AND the English language at the same time, you can misunderstand our warning about an animal and find yourself in grave danger.
Attività e turni
Everyone is encouraged to have breakfast since we cannot be absolutely sure when lunch will be. There is a schedule for the day, but this may be preempted by the escape of some animals or illness of one of the humans. Morning chores are usually done after breakfast, then there may be another task to complete or free time. Meals are communal affairs with all volunteers, visitors and Kelly. A short nap maybe necessary right after lunch. Afternoon activities may vary from riding, trip to Meadow Lake, baking or other food preparation, building/repairing fences or other infrastructure, assisting with lessons to computer work. The afternoon chores are usually done around 5, just before supper at 6 p.m. After supper in the spring/summer there is generally time to ride, hike or do other outdoor activities. In the fall and winter, darkness closes in earlier, then games & reading occur indoors.
Regole
Visiting dogs must be tied or under supervision at all times. When we are absolutely sure they will not disturb the resident animals they may be allowed to roam more freely.
