I volunteered in the summer and then came back for the autumn season because this place and the people are magic. Activities this time round (apart from chores and maintenance) included: collecting wood, bonfires, baking, cold dips, playing music, games, stargazing and creating art. Spending time at the hostel and being part of the big hostel family has healed my soul. All my love to Bricin, Patricia, Billie, Cash, Peter, Cookie, Taylor, Dave, Lili and Hazy.

I had a wonderful and fulfilling time here, with no worries about being bored—just about whether I had enough energy! Although getting to Highland Hostel wasn't easy and involved several transfers, I'm really happy that this is the starting point of my travels in Canada. Everyone is very friendly and always helps each other out, and the food is incredibly delicious! I also learned a lot about Canadian culture, and I absolutely love it! Thanks to Highland Hostel Family, for such a great experience and stay!

WOW! We arrived here as Worldpackers but left as part of the family. We had the most spontaneous and amazing adventure and have left with memories that we'll cherish forever. The family are incredible hosts, work was easygoing and we always had an adventure. We swam everyday, had campfires every night, boat rides, live music, hikes and even a helicopter ride! We were immersed in the local culture from day one, and lived by the motto 'go with the flow'. The staff cabin is perfect and a great way to bond with other Worldpackers. Thank you for everything the hostel family <3

WOW! We arrived as Worldpackers but left as part of the family. We had the most wild, spontaneous, and amazing adventures. We helped out around the hostel with cleaning, laundry, housekeeping and lunches. It was very easygoing, afterwards there was always an adventure! Swam everyday, campfires every night, boat rides, hikes, live music, fishing, stargazing and even a helicopter ride! The staff cabin is cosy, a great way to bond with other Worldpackers. We met many locals, but it was the family that made this a once in a lifetime experience. We'll cherish this forever <3

Words cannot truly describe and capture my experience here, I had the most magical and joyous time. Beaches, swim holes, campfires, live music, hiking, parties, lobster - the hostel has it all. The sense of family, friendship and community is so strong. You stay in a cosy cabin with the other crew. Chores are well explained and manageable, as soon as you finish it's time for an adventure ...'Work hard, play hard' and 'go with the flow' are the vibes. I am going to miss everyone so much but I left with so much joy and love in my heart

The experience was literally life-changing. The first week I thought… this gonna be so fun. By the final 2 weeks I was getting emotional at the thought of leaving. I will forever treasure my time with Bryce, Patricia, Billy, Cash, Pete, Cookie and of course my loves, fellow volunteers Taylor and Georgina. There are no words… Thank you and thank you again ❤️

My experience was excellent. The family is incredibly kind and welcomed me from the first moment. I had the opportunity to explore the area by hiking, which was a lot of fun and I was also given space to learn and practice my English. The volunteer work was varied and depended on the number of guests staying, but in general, I was able to complete the tasks in 3 or 4 hours, which also allowed me to enjoy free time. I very much appreciate the opportunity to have been part of your team and hope to visit you again in the future.

Life here was wonderful. The work was easy and well-explained. The hostel family took great care to ensure that I enjoyed my stay. Though my English was imperfect, they were always patient with me. The motto of the hostel is "Just flow," which confused me at first, but I got used to it. I loved everything about here, the beautiful nature, the kind family, the great hostel, and the friendly neighbors. However, there were a few inconveniences, such as not being told when it was my day off and when guests were supposed to check out. I am very happy to work here and can't thank them enough.

That's fantastic, Noriko! Regarding the few challenges of not knowing your days off, during your 30-day stay, we only had three bookings. Consequently, nearly every day turned out to be a day off since there was no work if no one checked in. We just expect dishes be done after we cook for you or wipe a counter if you see crumbs or take out the garbage if it’s full. Minor chores.

Addressing the uncertainty of guest checkouts, with only three bookings in that period, the busiest checkout day coincided with an adventure I took you on, while Patricia efficiently managed three bed flips. The other two bookings we weren’t sure if they were extending their stay or not so sometimes it’s tuff to tell. We do get lots of bookings extending their stay after they show up and end up loving it here hahahah. Good Problem to have. Thanks for the feedback Noriko!!

NORIKO!! Thank you for everything!!!! AND YOU BETTER COME BACK FOR A VISIT THIS SUMMER BEFORE YOU LEAVE FOR JAPAN!!! OF COURSE FREE BED FOR NORIKO Hostel Family forever!! DOORS ALWAYS OPEN!

During my experience with the host Bricin, I faced numerous challenges that greatly affected my overall satisfaction. I felt my efforts were often overly criticised, and I didn't receive any appreciation for tasks done correctly. Additionally, some personal traits were commented in ways that felt hurtful. Mostly, I felt my generosity, efforts and time were not appreciated. The only enjoyable aspects of my time there were unrelated to the volunteering tasks. Improving relationship dynamics and communication, could significantly enhance the volunteer experience.

By far the worst World Packers experience yet... we haven't even taken on anyone since because of our experience. Incompetent, rude, not aware of his surroundings walking through guests when grumpy cleaning, no good with kids at all, bad at taking directions, painfully slow 17 beds 3 bathrooms in 8hrs). A sore loser when playing games with guests & kids, no attention 2 detail, not motivated or pro active, would complain about tasks. over 25 world packers and 7 yrs of guests he was the first person 2 make our daughter cry, talks very loud 2 himself complaining even screaming at times to himself while doing agreed upon tasks.
My abusive instagram message was
"Don't you ever touch this fireplace again you almost caused a fire" ( didn't close the fireplace door to lock it and a burning log hit the glass opening the door sucking in a dangerous draft and causing sparks to shoot out the door... Marius had no idea we were really lucky Patricia caught this intime....the instagram post before that was "It's time to pack your bags this is enough"
.. HOSTS
BEWARE!! We could go on but l'll just leave it at that. We tried.
