I liked it there i expected something dirfferent but at the end it was also a good experience. Sadly the hostel is on a the shelter where not a lot of people are but it was fine the nature over there was very beautiful. The host also was friendly most of the time and the sleeping place was okay it wasnt the best but it was okay i am very thankful for everything and i had a good time

My stay was great. Karin is a very friendly and helpful lady who cares a lot about the well-being of her animals. I really enjoyed the work with the cats and miss them a lot. Thanks to Karin and her horses, I was able to fulfill my childhood dream and ride with the horse the shelter beach. The nature was beautiful. The area is very quiet and it took me about 45 minutes to get to the „town“. Breakfast was not included. Unfortunately I was the only girl for that period and felt often quite lonely. I recommend it to everyone who loves the quiet and the nature. Thanks for having me!😊

Staying with Karin was definitely an experience. I would like to start with saying Karin is one of the most devoted and hard working women I have met when it comes to her animals and has done so much good, but there is a lot of things that were not expected to start we are told we get a free breakfast every morning which was not delivered aswell as a private room… original we were put in a shared doors and ended up very uncomfortable with a guest staying in there and Karin did kindly move us. If you do choose to go here communicating is key and you need to ask exactly how to do the task..

Las Galeras is a beautiful place, La Hacienda is very near to the beach and the work at the shelter is quit simple.The rescue cats are very lovely and it's touching to see how Karin take care of them. I apologize because i was very rigid about my days off. the shelter site was written one day, and when i arrived, Karin told me that it was two days off, this has given rise to many misunderstandings and inconsistencies between us. We didn't talk that much. It was my first volunteer experience, so i recommand this place for a first volunteering experience.

This volunteering was simply incredible, we enjoyed our experience a lot and miss Karin, the cats and the place so much. Karin is someone truly kind, adorable and careful. The work she asked to do is simple, we had to clean the shelter, change their waters, and pet them. The cats are so cute, we liked to work by their side !! We honestly recommend this volunteering to you because the place and landcape are amazing, locals are so friendly and we enjoyed the culture there. It was a great experience, we hope our future volunteering will be as good as this one ! Thanks for all Karin 😊

Our experience was incredible, it was our first volunteering and we enjoyed a lot ! Karin is a lovely woman, very kind. The hacienda is pleasant, situated 10 minutes walks from the sea. It's 40 minutes walk to go to Las Galeras but when Karin goes, she suggests that we come. The job with cats it's simple, we have to clean the shelter, change their waters, take care and pet them. Thank you so much Karin, we already miss you and the hacienda, we come back to France with beautiful memories.

Thank you Karin for this experience. I would recommend this volunteering mainly to animal lovers. Taking care of the cats was not only about feeding and general cleaning, but also petting some cats and trying to remember the names :). Also the town Las Galeras is a great place to stay with many beautiful beaches around (which you will be able to explore after you finish the work in the morning). Not too touristy but a small town.

This was a great experience! Karin was so welcoming and she has the most amazing cats! The work is simple but can be hard work and time consuming especially in the heat and it can be difficult to da good job as the standards are held high. The accommodation was great in a beautiful quiet part of the Dominican Republic with an amazing beach not far from the property.

Daily tasks (about 7 - 10:30): sweeping & mopping the cathouse, cleaning the bowls and emptying & cleaning litter trays. The work isn't difficult but you need to take your time and do it thoroughly. Accommodation: * Basic small 3 bed shared dorm in hostel with fan (can be quite hot) * Interesting visitors: spiders, cockroaches, centipedes *15 min walk to a beautiful beach, 50 min walk to small town/closest shop. I would recommend to anyone who is a thorough cleaner & loves cats but also someone who doesn't mind insects & is happy living a quiet lifestyle away from the town/activity

Charlotte i agree about the dorm room but how many times i offered you to go in to a private room...and you didn't want so don't complain about the room as it was your own choise to stay there😉
But know....you were one of the best volunteers i ever had what made it so mutch easier for me. Now it's me who is sweating, mopping and cleaning bowls (don't talk about colecting poop) every morning. Thanks a lot Charlotte i realy appreciate all the work you have done for the cats. Because it is not for me that i want people doing this it is for helping cats. Take care.

My time at La Hacienda was peaceful and tranquil. While the work is minimal and Karin is a lovely woman, she can be rather particular about how it's done. So just be sure to ask her to explain everything in great detail. the shelter is nearby many local beaches and hiking trails, so if you finish with the cats early you can spend the rest of your day by the beach! Overall a welcome change of pace for which I'm thankful.
