Dettagli del programma

Guesthouse Manager is a seasonal, long term, leadership role. It is a managerial position which will require you not just to be a cleaner, or a receptionist, but be the manager of the entire guesthouse, ensuring everything runs smoothly. Two volunteers will join the guesthouse team for July and August as housekeeping and will support you with the bulk of the cleaning tasks. Until then you will work independently. You are required to arrive at the beginning of May for training.

As Guesthouse manager you will need to have excellent organisation, delegation, communication and collaboration skills. Although your team will work collaboratively and share tasks, what separates you from your team members is your differing levels of responsibilities, and you having the bigger picture overview of the day to day business. You should also have a great eye for detail, have high standards for cleaning and understand the essence of hospitality. If you love meeting new people and making people feel at home then this is the job for you!

Bognago is about fostering personal connections. We offer a very unique experience to our guests, not just because of the extraordinary location or unique, boutique rooms, but because we essentially invite them to be a part of our community for a few days. We share meals together at the same table, exchange over drinks, and even hike or do karaoke together. It's essential to understand this to be their host.

Being part of the managerial circle of Alpe Bognago means you are stepping into a job where you play a massive role and hold a huge responsibility for the smooth running and success of the entire Organisation; understanding and respecting this is crucial to understanding this entire project.

Attività e turni

A typical day as Guesthouse Manager will start by checking all online booking platforms and channels for booking updates and guest communications. This is followed by check outs, preparing rooms, laundry, and the daily cleaning of all bathrooms(5). We currently have 10 guest rooms available; 8 of these rooms can host 2 people.

As Guesthouse Manager you will often delegate tasks to the Housekeeping Crew while you take care of individual tasks. You will also often be in close communication with other managers, especially with the Head Chef, about number of plates and dietary restrictions. You also hold an important responsibility to keep an eye on the presentation of Bognago in general, to enforce a general standard of order and cleanliness around the property.

The trickiest thing about this role is that the daily hours can vary a lot, depending on how many guests we have, guest arrival times/departures, or any special needs. This requires you to be very flexible with your schedule, think fast on your feet, and still be able to keep the overview.

The standard volunteer hours in exchange for room/board are 5hrs/day, specifically from 8am to 13pm. All housekeeping must be completed within these hours. However, during the peak month of August the Guesthouse Manager is required to work 8hrs/day because we are so much busier than usual. All hours exceeding the standard 5hr/day volunteer hours are considered extra working hours and will thus be monetarily compensated. The Housekeeping Crew will still adhere to the 5hrs/day in both July/August. The extra hours are mainly designed for administrative/organisational tasks of the Guesthouse Manager.

guesthouse = bognago only income

Regole

Working in Bognago also means understanding and adapting to the challenges of its remote off-grid location. Being a 45 min. hike away from civilisation, and another 45 min. drive to the closest big town, means the every day life and considerations that go into that are quite different than what you may be used to - and what our guests may be used to as well! This means you will have to be incredibly sensitive to the lack of convenience of the lifestyle here, as well as our financial situation and very strict budget.

Alpe Bognago is a very young volunteer project; our funds are therefore extremely limited, and the guesthouse plays a crucial role in that. The guesthouse is the main source of income for this project; being its manager is therefore a huge responsibility and should be treated with care.

Being one of the department managers in Bognago means we will hold you to a higher standard than short term volunteers. We will ask you to learn the ways of life here faster and better, to be an example to new volunteers and help upkeep standards and rules, and we will constantly wish for your initiative and input to make this place and your experience here the best it can be. We need you to have the attitude that you are coming here to work together with us, not wait until you are given instructions. Bognago is built on the values of community, honesty, and respect; respect for each other, your work, your environment. We ask you to take your role here both seriously and joyously, and are ready to share a wonderful summer with you if we are on the same page.
