L'Esperienza

We are a family-run hostel with over 50 years of history, located in the heart of Rethymno, just 10 minutes from the beach and close to restaurants, bars and supermarkets. We are looking for a volunteer to ensure calm and tranquility in the hostel after reception closes at 11:00 pm. Schedule: 4 hours per day, 3 days off per week. Ideal for a responsible and calm person who enjoys a peaceful night environment.

My time here at RYH was such an amazing experience, I wish I stayed longer! The vibes were chill and social around the hostel. The staff, volunteers and guests were all so nice and welcoming, it was almost too easy to have a good time!! Work wise, the tasks were straight forward and easy to complete. The location is amazing and there is so much to do, I will have to come back to experience things I missed out on. Thanks to the whole team, I will remember this time forever xoxo

As volunteer experiences go, you can't go wrong with RYH. Rethymno is a charming town with bus connections all over Crete. Tasks include cleaning, event planning, and social media. Everything is simple and shared among the team. Scheduling is last-minute and can change, but hours are respected. RYH itself is clean and comfortable. Volunteers share dorms with guests, which leads to some bed-switching during your stay, depending on occupancy and dorm dynamics. It's a very social place with endless opportunities to make connections. You'll make new friends every single day to enrich your stay!

Volunteering here was one of the most meaningful experiences of my life. From the moment I arrived, I felt welcomed in a way I never had before, not just as a volunteer, but as a person. I've never been in a place where I felt so seen. A huge part of that was thanks to Tristan. I could talk to him about everything and he would truly listen. It created a safe, warm and open environment that made every day special. Book this volunteer experience if you want to have the best time of your life, while doing something meaningful with the best people.

This was a really nice experience! The work is easy and the working hours are good! You have plenty of time to do activities, explore the city or the island! The only thing that was tough on me was the heat! In July and August it's no joke with 40°C. It makes the afternoon shift more difficult. So take your time and drink a lot of water! After that, don't trust Google map for the buses, it barely show any buses and bugs. Listen to the locals! Other than that, no complaints!

My experience at this hostel was incredible. A huge thank you to Tristan, Nikos, and Joseph for their warm welcome and kindness. I 100% recommend this place: the staff is amazing, the hostel is perfectly located to easily explore the island, and the shifts are really easy. I'm leaving with amazing memories!
