Apply if you want to live in Medellín for a minimum of 3 months
I recently moved from Barranquilla to Medellín. I lived in Barranquilla for 20 years, where my family and friends are, but now I’m alone in Medellín with my 9-year-old daughter and our 13-year-old fluffy cat named Princesa. Therefore, it’s important that you don’t have allergies to cats and that you love animals.
I love this city! If you’ve been here before, you know what I’m talking about. The weather is perfect, and there’s so much culture, art, nature, and tourism. It’s a safe and peaceful city to live in.
I’ll be living in Belén (a neighborhood in Medellín, about 15 minutes from El Poblado) in an apartment with a great view, 3 bedrooms, and 2 bathrooms. This means you can have your own space in my home.
Since I’m alone with my daughter, without family or friends here, I’m looking for a woman, preferably someone who’s been to Medellín before and loves it. The main requirement is that you want to stay in my home for at least 3 months. Ideally, this person should want to “live” in Medellín for a while. It’s essential that you speak English (we speak English at home) and can drive a manual car (you’ll need a driver’s license).
Preferences:
• Clean and organized, preferably someone who’s a little obsessive about cleanliness because I am. (One of my house rules is that everything has its place, and everything must stay in its place.)
• Speaks English (English is the only language spoken at home).
• Works online (optional).
• Has a driver’s license and can drive a manual car.
• Disciplined and enjoys exercising (this could motivate me to be better and work out).
• Open, friendly, understanding, patient, and loving.
• Communicative and comfortable sharing feelings if something bothers them.
• Proactive and takes initiative.
I’d prefer someone who can commit to 3-6 months since I don’t want to entrust my daughter to a new person every month. This position is more suitable for someone who’s already visited Colombia, loved it, and wants to stay here for a while. (Most countries allow a 90-day tourist visa, which can usually be extended for another 90 days.)
We’ll have a video call interview beforehand to get to know each other and see if we’re a good match.
What it’s like being a volunteer in my home:
I don’t want you to feel like you’re working while staying here. I want you to feel like my roommate, my friend, and part of my family. I want us to support each other.
A typical routine in my home:
I wake up at 5 a.m. to get my daughter ready for school. I prepare her breakfast and lunch, bathe her, dress her, and then drive her to school, where she needs to be by 6:40 a.m.
Monday to Friday, I work and start my day at 9 a.m. with a daily meeting. Between dropping my daughter off and my 9 a.m. meeting, I’d like to work out (running, skating, or going to the gym).
My work is flexible; I have my own marketing agency
I do not work on weekends, but during the week, I’m usually working Some hours per day or sometimes a lot.
At 2:30 p.m., I pick up my daughter from school. In the afternoons, I want her to practice a sport like skating and art (painting).
If I can’t take her to extracurricular activities, I’ll need your help. That’s why it’s important that you have a driver’s license and can drive a manual car.
I’d like to explore Medellín and its surroundings on weekends, so I hope to plan outings that you, my daughter, and I can enjoy together.
Sometimes, I’ll need to go out at night or for activities where my daughter can’t come along. In those cases, I’ll need someone to stay with her. If you want to go out at night, meet people, or do something where my daughter can’t be included, we can support each other to make it work.
Sharing responsibilities:
You’ll have your own room with a bathroom and closet. I’ll buy groceries to share, but if there’s something specific you like, you can buy it occasionally. You’ll also need to buy your own personal hygiene products.
A bit about me:
I’m 31 years old, a young mom, and very expressive. I love to talk and like being listened to. I’m friendly and always try to stay happy. I don’t have friends or family in Medellín yet, but I’m trying to meet new people.
I enjoy nature, exploring museums, visiting tourist spots, and nearby towns. I relax by watching movies at home or listening to music.
One of my pet peeves is not finding things in their place, so order is very important to me. It’s also essential that house rules are respected—for example, no one I don’t know can come into the apartment.
If this opportunity interests you, feel free to reach out! 😊
First of all, it is important that I prefer women, since I may have some time alone with my daughter.
I like to be accompanied at home, so in this house you will be another member of the family.
I like people with good energy, initiative and positivity.
Sometimes the volunteers who have come to my house have helped me with my administrative work. This is occasional.
I have a cat at home, it is important that you do not have allergies.
