Howes Homestead

Put in some honest tasks either digging and mixing soil, tending to the vegetable garden or nursery, feeding/milking the goats, planting a couple fruit trees or building a fence from locally collected trees.

Walk the homestead and great the chickens and ducks as you make your way to the back garden. Our family is multi-lingual. The children are fluent in English and Hungarian, and my wife is also fluent in Romanian as well. We are big in crafting with leather and wood and play music together most days (drums, violin, banjo, recorder, harmonica, guitar, accordion, etc) . We also like to organize farm to table events in the summer.

My experience here was great, I stayed for a month. Marta, Tim and their family are welcoming and social. Beautiful little homestead where there is always something new to learn. The work is suitable, working mostly in the garden and with the animals. There is public transport easily accessible, opportunities to explore surrounding nature or spend time with the family. I’ve enjoyed my time here and would recommend this volunteer experience to anyone looking to get involved in self sufficiency concepts.

I'm glad I took this opportunity to learn and experience work with animals like chickens, goats and also learning about farming and taking care of nature.

Their kids are true Tarzan's, love them, Moka (the dog) is a wild beautiful piece of love, and Tim is a dude you can talk and get inspiration from (his abilities with music is simply outstanding).

If you expect a 9 to 14 job, forget about it, you take care of stuff and you have the chance to show you are committed.

Is not a hostel, is not a fancy spot, but it does not pretend to be any of it. Great place to get humbled.

Marta and Tim are amazing hosts and I really enjoyed volunteering on their farm. Throughout my stay I felt taken care of. Additionally, I ate lots of delicious food and stayed in a comfortable private room. The hosts are always open to teach you things and answer your questions. Work was really interesting and diverse, therefore I learned quite a lot. I enjoyed spending time with all animals that Tim and Marta have on their farm. This experience definitely inspired me to try to have my own farm in the future, produce my own food and produce less waste.

Marta's family is fantastic. Marta makes sure we don't lack anything, Tim is very friendly and grateful, Isabela is a sweetheart, and the boys are musically gifted and helpful. They're truly children you don't see much of these days... It was a pleasure meeting this family...
The work is easy, some days it's more work, but others it's worth it. I miss the little dog, even though she's unruly.😅
Thank you, kisses to everyone.😘

I had a unique experience at the homestead as Marta and the children were not there during my week stay but Tim was welcoming and accommodating. However, he was quite preoccupied with work meetings, making him unable to be as hands on with facilitating a community experience.
Unfortunately we had to cut our stay short due to another volunteer.
The work was easy and caring for the animals was enjoyable. I pastured and milked the goats, fed all the animals, watered, weeded, collected bugs and harvested fruits and vegetables. There’s not much in the village to do but there is a nice winery.
