Himkala Adventure
The volunteers will get the chance to stay with a Nepalese family, live the real Kathmandu life, get to live it as a local, learn about the trekking industry, improve your skills with social media and websites, get free tours around Kathmandu, tours around the little villages of the countryside and get discounts if you want to do trekking in Nepal. All of these while hosted with a city and mountain guide.
I am a government licensed city and mountain guide; I have my own trekking company, and I live with my family of 4: my wife and 2 sons (7 and 21) in Kathmandu. You will live with us. You will have your private locked bedroom and a shared bathroom (hot water) with the other volunteer. You will get all three meals, breakfast and dinner being at home.
If you want to get the most out of Nepal, come with us and live like a local!
My wife my sons and I will be really happy to have you in our home and share the Nepali culture with you. My wife loves to cook. You will be living in the first floor where you will have a private room, a bathroom and a living room. You will have free time to explore Kathmandu and its surroundings. I will be more than happy to organize tour, trekking for you.

I found the facilities and the accommodation to be decent. However, the experience did not function as an active volunteering experience, but more like a paid homestay.
During my time, there were no clearly defined volunteer tasks or ongoing needs. Despite asking, I was not required for photography, videography, or other forms
The host also requested payment early in the stay, which reduced flexibility and led to an uncomfortable disagreement when I later wished a change of plans.
I would recommend very clear communication in advance regarding expectation of tasks and payment.

Staying with Shiva’s family was one of the most memorable experiences of my travels. Everyone was kind, welcoming, and treated us like family.
I became close with the older son，he’s funny, talented, and always creative. The younger son is adorable and full of energy, and their mother took amazing care of us with delicious food and thoughtful support.
I also joined their activities, went to the gym, and met many locals. This was my first volunteer experience, and I truly recommend everyone to stay here and experience their warmth and beautiful culture！🥰🥳

I stayed around 6 days at Shiva’s house, and the family welcomed me in such a warm and kind way! The food was authentic and absolutely delicious. I had my own private room, and they even offered me a free city tour. It was a beautiful experience perfect if you want to connect with locals and enjoy a truly local experience.

I really enjoyed my time here! The family were so welcoming and it really felt like home away from home. Helping the youngest son, Siddhartha, with his homework, a 4-day trek, and Sharmila’s cooking were the highlights - her dal bhat is incredible. The only thing I’d say is communication wasn’t always the clearest in terms of volunteering and also payment - make sure you have the money ready on the first day. But I truly made amazing memories here :)

As in my first solo travelling experience ,,volunteering" I felt really safe and the accomodation was cozy. The room locks from inside and outside. Tho it could be cleaner. I think I had a little bit different expectations and thought it will be more engaging and immersing. There was not really much of cultural exchange, but the tour Shiva gave was super nice, he is fluent in english and answers to most of your questions. Before coming I knew that there basically wont be work to do around, but in the end it was sad it was like this. But overall, family is nice, helpful and cozy. THANK YOU!
