Gilfach Farm

We are in a beautiful area of Wales where in your own time you can relax and look at the stunning views or go for walks/runs in the forest which is on our doorstep . We have 3 local towns within 1/2 hour drive, but there is no public transport here so if we go we will take you if you'd like. If you like horses then we have 5 to help with (2 ridden but all riding offered is in your own time) as well as 25 sheep, chickens and a cat..If you like peace and quiet then we are the place for you as we are situated in quite a remote smallholding.

You will be part of the family, you have your own room and shared bathroom if family are staying. Just me and my husband live here and usually my grown up grandson (29yrs). I run a B&B but all help will be outside. We cook evening meals for all of us and for breakfast and lunch then you help yourself to what we have, if you are vegan or vegetarian then just cook for your self. we do not eat any pork or pork products so please do not bring any .

I stayed at Gilfach Farm for almost three weeks and had a great time. Nikki and Oz were very welcoming, and I also enjoyed meeting Dija, Tom, and Daisy the cat. The farm is peaceful and surrounded by beautiful nature. The tasks were physical work but simple and well explained, and I actually enjoyed doing them. Nikki was very supportive and helped me a lot with my English, and I’m really grateful for that. I recommend this place to anyone looking for a friendly and authentic experience in Wales.

Truly one of the best experiences I have ever had! You will be stepping into this astonishingly beautiful area in the middle of Wales. It is very rural, but that gives you the possibility to connect with nature very deeply. All the horses were very lovely and had fun personalities! And the tasks vere nice, nothing bad to say. Also got the possibility to go on a climbing trip to Eryri, which was something I’ll never forget! Huge thanks to Nikki, Oz, Tom and everybody else I got to meet <3.

Nikki and Oz’s house is in a beautiful rural part of Wales. I would say that as it is nice and quiet place a car would be very beneficial if you want to go on days out away from the local area as no nearby public transportation.

My jobs were varied and all hours were as promised. The Horses were all lovely to work with and the views amazing whilst your working. The time off and work is a good balance and I loved going for walks in the Welsh countryside. I was lucky to also go Climbing with Dija and Tom and thank you to Nikki and Oz for welcoming me into their home.

Norah came for 2 weeks (she had to leave early as unfortunately felt ill ) to help with the horses, riding and cleaning all the tack. She was a joy to have stay, cheerful and independent and got on with everything she was asked to do on her own. I’d recommend her to any future host. Thanks Norah for all your hard work.

This was my first volunteer experience EVER and I couldn’t have choosen better. Nikki and Oz are lovely and brilliant human beings, I’ll miss them. They made me feel at home since day one and we had lovely chats all the time. The tasks were nice and hands on but not exausting, they were actually rewarding. The home that they have built over the last 38 years is honestly amazing and to see Nikki take care of everything and all the animals, mostly on her own, was very very admirable. The view of the farm is amazing, so much nature. The animals were sweets and I’ll miss all of them so much. ❤️

Ana came for 2 weeks and helped in the garden weeding and planting some potatoes, also helped hold the lambs while I wormed them. This was all out of her comfort zone, being a city girl, but she really tried her best and did a wonderful job. She was such a lovely person to have stay here always cheerful and chatty and she looked after all the animals so we could go away for a few nights which was so nice for us to have such a responsible person left in charge, she loved all the animals.

Nikky is a lovely lady. She's very patient and friendly. During my stayed it was a challenge for me to adapt myself not only the tasks (being a desk guy), but also to their customs (mainly to the food) . But she answered in a very good way. It was a wonderful first experience in Wordpackers for me and I would do it again closed eyes. Nikky is a person you're going to miss once you'd left the farm. I'm glad of my time in the farm and even I've left some clothes for the following volunteers. Hope to visit again someday. Cheers!

Pablo was a delight to have stay here for 2 weeks, so friendly, upbeat and chatty and all the tasks he did with such precision and care, which was so helpful to me. He loved all the animals and we had great chats about them all and his own two lovely cats in Argentina. My introduction to Mate tea was fun, something I’d never heard of so had to have a try , in return he had a dandelion leaf 😂. I’ll definitely miss his company
